Quilts with a St. Patrick’s Day or Irish influence permeate our history in names and colors.  Many of the quilts of our ancestors had names that revealed that origin and the phrase, “the luck of the Irish.”

These included: Irish Chain, Double Irish Chain, Double Irish Chain, Four-Leaf Clover, Triple Irish Chain, Shamrock and others.  Then many quilts made in green of various hues reflected the color we associate with St. Patrick’s Day.

*A fabric store web site that offers free patterns using the fabrics they sell.

*A quilter’s blog may have free patterns along with tutorials.

*An online quilting supply store may offer free patterns along with those you can purchase.

*A complete web site might offer patterns and resources for other web sites and blogs that also have these available.

 quilts, blocks of the month (BOM), pieced and applique blocks, paper pieced patterns (PP), mysteries, quilting designs (QD), quilt labels, wallhangings and small projects.

Sources for Free Quilt & Project Patterns

Heart patterns for Valentine’s Day.  Even though you won’t have time to make it this year’s occasion, keep this project in mind for the future and for giving as a gift.

Jen at Domestik Goddess has a delightful “Mosaic Hearts” free pattern on her blog.  Included is a video, by creator Beth Lancaster, to guide you with the construction.  This is a lovely pattern and you’ll find suggestions for variations.

Also, there are other free patterns at Domestik Goddess for a baby quilt, Crossing Paths quilt, and others.
