My favorite summer breakfast is fruit, either fruit salad, or blended together in a fruit smoothie. I just throw together whatever fruit I have to make either one, depending on my mood.
To make fruit smoothies I usually try to keep some frozen fruit on hand. Overripe bananas, strawberries, grapes, and blueberries are all great to freeze to use for smoothies. I chop up the bananas, but throw the strawberries, grapes and blueberries in a freezer bag whole. This time of the year you can get some great prices on berries to freeze for smoothies later.

Mid-May begins strawberry season in the Midwest. Strawberries can be found in local farmers markets, at pick-you-own farms, and at your local grocery. What better way to enjoy this affordable, healthy, and tasty fruit than in this easy-to-make salad? The recipe is courtesy of the California Strawberry Commission.
Mexican Fruit Salad
4 cups (about 1 1/4 pounds) halved stemmed California strawberries
2 cups mango chunks
2 cups melon chunks
1 cup pineapple chunks
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup fresh lime juice

1/2 teaspoon salt

Whenever I’m invited to a summer cookout or barbecue, I always offer to bring the fruit. It’s available everywhere during the summer, and you can throw together a fruit salad or fruit dessert with thousands of different combinations. And it’s healthy for you.
