And you can lower your risk for heart disease at any point in your life. Even if you are over the hill, or teetering on top of it.

A study published in the July 2007 issue of The American Journal of Medicine found that people 45 to 64 years of age who added healthy lifestyle behaviors could substantially reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease.

Once these people achieved 4 healthy behaviors, eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables daily, exercising at least 2.5 hours per week, maintaining their Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 30 kg/m, and not smoking, investigators saw a 35% reduction in CVD incidence and a 40% reduction in mortality compared to people with less healthy lifestyles.

So how many of you are willing to make that change? Honestly, be real, do you have what it takes? The same study showed that less than 9% of people over the age of 40 attempt to change their lifestyle even after knowing the benefits.

It’s hard to kick it into high gear with all of our daily responsibilities, but don’t you think it is worth it? Get your big ol’ backside moving and make that change, I will do it with you. Being a diabetic, I exercise regularly and eat semi-healthy, but let’s start a “fat blogging” exercise type club. I will share my results and progress with you, and a few of my shameful stories, and y’all share with me. Come on, it’ll be fun. Whatcha think? Deal?

I was contacted by someone about reviewing some new books that have just become available. Well, I love the first book. It is called The Eat-Clean Diet by Tosco Reno. The Eat-Clean Diet suggests a new way of eating. Actually, a whole new lifestyle.

I think that it is important to understand that if you want to make a nutritional or exercise related change in your life, it needs to be a complete lifestyle change in order to ensure success! Fad diets don’t work for long. And don’t you think that eating healthy is the way to go? You may lose an extra 10 pounds by eating all meat, but what do you think your heart will look like? Hmm… not pretty!

Anyway, I am not one for buying into crazy fads or jumping on a band wagon, but when something makes sense, it makes sense! Being a diabetic I absolutely eat a low carb diet, but I do not hesitate to eat my 5 fruits and veggies a day and my whole grains. My sugars are actually lower when I eat a whole lot of fruits and vegetables throughout the day!

Now, I am in no way saying that I agree with every single suggestion in the book. But I do appreciate the practicality and simplicity in which it was written.

Tosco even suggests to have more sex in the book. Well, yee ha! How could I not suggest this book, haha…

The release of male and female hormones causes an increase in metabolic rate… by as much as 15%.

It might be worth your time to check it out, you never know what might be that kick in the ol’ butt that you need to get movin’ and groovin’ to a heart healthier you!
