Actors are in a unique position. They are able to able to bring trends to the surface. Most of us don’t have a choice about whether we go bald, or not. When baldness is trendy, it does become a lot easier. While, I am not sure baldness will be trendy for women, anytime soon – it is helpful to know about women like Gail Porter. At the end of the day, when I am feeling insecure about the state of my hair (or lack thereof) thinking about people who live with confidence, while being under the …read more

OK, I admit it- it’s a slow day in the world of me relating to bald worthy news. I thought I would fill the time, by showing you how some readers found their way to baldiness – during this first week of 2008. This is not how everyone found their way, just some random searches that stuck out in my mind.

Beloved bald television presenter, Gail Porter’s dog ”Missy” has been diagnosed, with alopecia. What are the odds of that happening?
”Missy” is a Shar Pei, and will now have to wear a sweater, to keep her warm in winter.
When told by the vet, of her dog’s condition, Ms. Porter responded with the following statement:
You’re kidding!
Considering Ms. Porter’s attitude about being bald, I am sure that both she and “Missy” will deal just fine.

I think I need a mentor. Not an actual mentor ~ more like a muse, or a model.
Someone who is out there living life largely without hair. Bald Man had Gail Porter to talk about. I need someone to shadow. Someone whose life is inspirational….just by doing everyday little things with style.
Do you have any ideas?
Please share them…your idea just might be the one that I choose.

News of the lovely Ms. Porter has been scant of late, but she has turned up this week at the Life After Stroke Awards in London. The purpose of the event is “to celebrate the achievements of people who have rebuilt their lives.” Wonderful, really, that Gail seems to be turning up at so many charitable occasions.

Hello magazine have a couple snaps of Ms. Porter out and about with her daughter, Honey. Here’s one. In addition, I picked up a few tidbits:
Gail and boyfriend James Lloyd seem to have recently been “on a break,” though their back together now.
Fostering is still on Ms. Porter’s mind:”It is a tough decision but I’m not going to have any more children. Instead I’d like to foster. I’ve been to see Barnado’s with regards to maybe fostering a child with special needs.“
What’s with the sunglasses? I just don’t get that fashion trend.

Dead Famous: The Complete Series 2, starring our very own Ms. Porter, is now available on DVD in the UK. (Amazon US don’t seem to stock it.)
Look at that cover shot?
Gail before her alopecia. And such a serious look. I suppose it’s befitting a paranormal investigation.

The Sun has a couple of photos from a recent pre-Mother’s Day tea hosted by designer Pearl Lowe. (Mother’s Day is observed in March across the pond.) Among the pics is this lovely one of Gail and her daughter, Honey.
They look so happy, don’t they? The Sun has another one of them coloring. I find it hard not to smile when I see famous people acting quite ordinary.

Here’s a quick little story about our very own Ms. Porter: Seems she popped into her old school, Portobello High School in Edinburgh, to help a family friend out with a presentation.
The friend, 15-year-old Eve Learmonth, lives on the same street that Gail grew up on. “I’ve known Eve since she was born as she’s growing up on the same street as I did, so I was delighted when she asked me to take part.“
Gail Porter Wants to Relocate to Uganda

Sounds like Ms. Porter has a new crush…
No worries, James, it’s not another man, but Uganda… the country. After a recent visit to promote Fair Trade goods, she sounds rather smitten.
Oh yeah, it’s a bit naive; but surely that part of the world is permitted all the kind thoughts and good will it can get.
I’d like to bring Honey up somewhere like Uganda. I was amazed at how everyone worked together and the happiness of the people. She would benefit from everything there. We Brits appreciate nothing. We take things for granted, they don’t. We could learn a lot from …read more
