Protect the World’s Most Important Places

]]> Today TripAdvisor kicked off the TripAdvisor World Heritage Campaign to help protect the places around the world that matter the most. As part of the two-year campaign, the travel site will donate up to $1.5 million of support to include a cash donation allocated to UNESCO World Heritage initiatives.

The World Heritage Convention, an international treaty enacted in 1972, identified sites of outstanding value to humanity. UNESCO World Heritage initiatives works to protect and preserve the sites for future generations. They also identify new sites that need protecting.

TripAdvisor wants your help, and you could win a trip to Paris, France! The trip includes VIP access to cherished World Heritage sites in France. Follow this TripAdvisor link to register to win the trip to Paris.

How does TripAdvisor need your help?

They need traveler feedback on nearly 900 World Heritage sites across the globe. You can locate the sites by visiting tripadvisor.com/WorldHeritageSites.

According to a recent survey by TripAdvisor, US travelers are most concerned about protecting Galapagos Islands (pictured above) and Grand Canyon National Park (pictured below).

Other top sites mentioned in the survey include Yellowstone National Park, Acropolis, Athens, Yosemite National Park and Venice and its Lagoon.

]]> Longtime Jeopardy! host, Alex Trebek, heads off for a trip to the Galapagos Islands, and you could be going along with him.

Lobos del Mar In celebration of Jeopardy!’s 25th Anniversary, the show is selecting 25 viewers (and their guests) to accompany Alex onboard the National Geographic Endeavour for a 10day/9 night voyage.  The Galapagos, just off the coast of Ecuador, are one of the most biologically diverse and conservationally important areas on Earth.

The contest runs March 30th – May 1st.  To enter, you need to watch the show (of course!) and then go to the Jeopardy website to submit the Final Jeopardy! category for the episode.

I’ve been a Jeopardy! fan over the years (remember, Seattle is the home of BIG winner Ken Jennings), and have fantasized a time or two about standing at the lectern with that buzzer in my hand.  Now tease me with a Galapagos trip, you can bet I’ll be watching.

This archipelago of volcanic islands, known for its diverse wildlife, is located around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
