Hopscotch can not be played indoors and outdoors with the help from some toymakers like Twister, Alex Toys, and Edushape. You can even make your own hopscotch for indoors with masking tape.
But, it is still one of the number one outdoor games for kids. There are several variations of the game.
Use chalk (or the tape) to outline a hopscotch pattern on the ground.. Create a diagram with 8 sections and number them. Each player has a marker such as a stone, beanbag,
bottlecap, shell, button, etc.

Downward-Facing Dog
Have children get down on their hands and knees and get ready for a stretch and a doggy walk. Lift up their tails towards the sky so their legs straighten out and press their heels down to the ground. Have them bark like a dog as they stretch their bodies out, and then take a walk around the room pretending to be a dog.
Cat & Cow

Kids love to jump, right? They also love to figure out how far they can jump. So, why not measure them. Draw a fake river on the carpet or use masking tape (two strips) and ask them to jump over the river.
Little ones can play “frogger” if you place socks in the middle of the river for them to jump onto.

Obstacle Course
Make an obstacle course using a 2×4 (balance beam), a cardboard box (tunnel), a painter’s drop cloth and
hula hoops (for jumping). Some children will simply worked their way throughout, while others will be very creative in completion. The area that allows for the most creative movement is the painter’s drop cloth
which is placed so the kids had to get across it before moving on to the next activity. Children will roll,
jump, leap frogg, walk, cartwheel and crawl across.
You can also add a scooter (like a tricycle) and small cones (or socks), a yoga ball (or big pillows) to jump …read more
Get Fit Friday: Sledding

Has it snowed in your area yet? Getting outdoors when the sun is shining can be the best thing for your little ones (and older kiddos too!).
Last year I took AJ sledding after preschool several times a week just to get his “wiggles” out and it did wonders for him. It is a great proprioceptive workout for kids and the slopes are empty on weekday afternoons.
Just watch out for those icy spots…I broke our saucer on an ice patch (and hurt my bum!).

If your child does not have 30-minute activity break each day, try to give him two 15-minute periods or three 10-minute periods in which they can engage in vigorous activities appropriate for their age, gender and stage of physical and emotional development. Any concerns about your child’s physical or overall health should be discussed with their pediatrician.

Get Fit Friday: Snow Forts

Last year on New Year’s Eve we had a surprise snowstorm. It turned out to be the most beautiful night and my most memorable New Year’s Eve ever.
The three of us played outside in the snow for several hours, walking in the deserted streets, building a snow fort, and truly enjoying being a family. It was the most perfect family holiday.
Enjoy your holiday and please, do something outside AND together.
