Elements of Style Winner

I wonder if William Strunk and E.B. White knew what a fabulous resource they were creating for writers when they published The Elements of Style? Many of you commented on our giveaway post, with several folks that said you had the book in college. There were also a few writers out there that said they could use the book for work. Even today, it is one of the bestselling books around.

So a big congratulations goes out to Jan P., who is our winner! Jan echoed many other people when she said, “I remember this from college journalism. Sure could use it now in my new writing career.”
I hope it brings you many happy hours in writing, Jan!

Bees-Tees Giveaway
July 4, 2009 by Eliza Ferree
Bees-Tees is giving away one cute tee on Blisstree to one lucky reader. Will it be you? For those that don’t know Bees-Tees have a cute little bumble bee on the front (middle) of the tee with a phrase like cute, happy, proud, etc.

IMG: Bees Tees
Bees-Tees are being called Character Tees because it teaches children all about character issues and it is a great way for you to communicate and talk with your child about these issues. Imagine dressing them in the morning and talking about what the shirt says. Or maybe they just think the bee is cute, either way it works because the shirts really are and they mean something at the same time. These tees will at least be a positive influence instead of all those negative ones out there.
I went back to read more about Bees-Tees and how they were created and thought ya’ll would like to read it. The mom, Melissa Patton, created two for her daughter and realized they could talk about it and this made her think about all the shirts she could create with those character statements: kind, fair, friendly, etc and how they could actually do those things.

GIVEAWAY:
PRIZE: One Bees-Tees of your choice
RULES: Head on over to Bees-Tees and let me know which phrase and shirt you’d like.
Bonus entries: stumble this, twitter it or blog this post and leave a comment letting me know.
Deadline: July 18th, I’ll announce the winner at noon.

Giveaway: Cube Chic
June 28, 2009 by Cherie Burbach
Filed under Contests, Home & Living
If you work in a “cube,” those generic grey workspaces, you will definitely find Cube Chic of interest! In it, the author takes the average cube and spruces it up to totally transform its look. There are great examples of how you can do this, and none of them cost too much or are so outlandish that your boss will object. (Of course, before you decorate your cube you should always ask your boss first!)

Some of the ideas included are a pub, tiki cube, mod, glam, and golf cube.
I’m giving away a copy of the book Cube Chic, so if you’d like to win, leave a comment on this post by Wednesday, July 8th. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce the guy or girl the next day.

Giveaway: Momisms
June 28, 2009 by Cherie Burbach
Filed under Contests, Home & Living
Don’t we love those little phrases moms all over the world like to say? Like, “Is that what you’re going to wear?” or my favorite, “What’s going on with your hair?” I know I’m not the only one that thinks these are cute and annoying, all at the same time! (tee hee)

That’s why I know you’re going to love this giveaway. It’s a copy of Momisms: What She Says and What She Really Means. Here’s a description from Amazon:
“Is that what you’re going to wear?” Used indiscriminately for sons, daughters, and husbands, this one is a not-so-subtle attempt to make family members rethink their wardrobe choice.” Deciphering the clandestine conspiratorial language that all moms know and use to full effect, Cathy Hamilton translates more than 100 enigmatic maternal utterances to convey the difference between what Mom says and what she means.
If you’d like to win a copy of this book (which in my opinion makes a fun little gift) leave a comment on this post by Tuesday, July 7th. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce them the next day.

Win a Diabetes Book
June 25, 2009 by Cherie Burbach
Filed under Contests, Home & Living
I’m giving away a copy of my latest book, 21 Simple Things You Can Do to Help Someone With Diabetes here today! I hope any of you with diabetes, or those that have a loved one with the disease, will enter to win.
So many books out there are all about diet and exercise and medicine. This book is about the personal toll diabetes can sometimes take, and how you (as a friend of the diabetic) can help.

Here’s a description:
Why should non-diabetics get informed? Because as much as we know about diabetes treatment today, the support from our family and friends still plays a part in how healthy we are. An understanding approach from someone who cares means everything to us.
Your diabetic friend or relative counts on you to be the person in their life that “gets it” when no one else does. This book will tell you what you can do to help. Things like what you should (and shouldn’t) say, what you should learn to truly be supportive, and even how you can help in the fight for a cure.
21 Things You Can Do To Help Someone With Diabetes will point you in the right direction so you can truly support your diabetic friend.
To enter, leave a message on this post. I’ll choose a winner at random by Monday, July 6th. I’ll choose a winner at random and announce the lucky guy or gal the next day.

Win a Knight’s Tale

Before all the hoopla with Heath Ledger as the Joker in Batman, he was also an excellent actor in several earlier works, like this one: A Knight’s Tale. As if Heath were not enough to make this movie hunk-o-licious, there’s also Rufus Sewell.

A Knight’s Tale takes place in the 14th century with a “rocking new twist” (according to the DVD package!) Here is the trailer:
