Eco-friendly Christmas Stocking Treats

We recently looked at some eco-friendly stocking stuffer options, but most stockings aren’t complete without some yummy treats as well. When stuffing an eco-friendly stocking look for treats and sweets with minimal packaging (although this is hard with smaller treats) and organic or at least natural ingredients. Avoid treats containing stuff you can’t pronounce; that’s a good sign the treat is full of icky chemicals.
Some options…

100% USDA Certified Organic Maple Candy – in fact this candy ONLY contains organic maple syrup.
Natural Popcorn Balls – contains just popcorn, salt, sunflower oil, sugar, vinegar, and lecithin (soy).
Lavender Caramel – great for an …read more

Plan for the greenest Christmas tree

There are all sorts of shades of green when it comes to Christmas trees – here’s how the choices stack up.

NOT GREEN #1: Artificial trees you use for just a few years. Not only is this a waste of money, but resources too. Most artificial trees are made of some sort of plastic and imported from China, hitting you with a double ding (plastic and emissions).
NOT GREEN #2:  A Christmas tree from a non-local farm that’s been driven miles to get to your area – local is better.
NOT MUCH GREENER: Artificial trees you use for years and years. If you …read more
