Raise an Earth Loving Child

The problem in my opinion with green living when it comes to kids is that a lot of it is focused on safe BPA-free baby bottles, cloth diapers, non-toxic toys, and more. It can be very green gear related. However, while all that stuff does matter, what’s really super important is actually raising kids who like, maybe even love the planet. No matter how many green toys you buy your child, it’s nothing compared to the values your child gains from nature. A kid who is raised to love nature will be far more inclined to protect the planet when …read more

I nearly forgot to announce the two winners of the $15 Domino’s Pizza gift cards. I have a good excuse, though – I was working to put together another great travel contest!
Our winners are:
Teresa Glazer who thought that Domino’s Green Graffiti campaign should come to Atlanta, and David, who’s hoping for Houston.
I’ve sent emails out to each of you, requesting information to get you your prize.
Congratulations!
And a big thanks to the pizza people at Domino’s for offering this prize to Blisstree readers.

Green Trips for Eco-Travelers

I love road trips which, as a green living advocate, always makes me feel a little guilty what with the gas use and all. It’s true that the greenest vacation is one nearby, however, if you want to buy some flight or auto carbon credits to offset your travel energy, you may want to check out some far-off destinations.
Outrigger Log Cabin at The Cottages at Spring House Farm
The Cottages at Spring House Farm was named one of the “Top Ten Best Hideaways” by Outside Magazine and this getaway is green to boot. The Cottages, located at the foot of the …read more
Eco-friendly travel social network

As of Thursday over 600 lodging properties have earned the Green Eco-Leaf Rating by completing a 70 point comprehensive eco-audit survey administered by iStayGreen.org – the online social network of environmentally friendly travel.
I’m not too sure that this is the best way to find eco-friendly travel destinations though. The rating is flawed in a number of ways. For example, although the eco-audit is comprehensive in nature, travel properties fill out the audit on their own. I could be Joe hotel owner with no recycling program and non-organic sheets but who is really to stop me from calling my hotel green …read more

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
I’ve been writing travel articles for years and once was editor of a regional travel publication. Currently I write a travel column, Vagabond Traveler, for American Roads Travel Magazine.
I decided to expand upon this and write The “Green” Vagabond Traveler as a blog and see where it goes. Although the blog features traveling and what I encounter in my travels, it also touches upon “green” as it affects various aspects of our lives.
(We’ve discussed “green” in our quilting as it applies to recycling, reusing, and protecting the environment, both in our lives and those of our ancestors.)
Even though I sometimes …read more
