Celebrate National Guacamole Day

National Guacamole Day is coming up September 16th. Is it a coincidence that it comes right at the beginning of guacamole season (otherwise known as football season)? I have to tell you I could celebrate guacamole every day of the year, or at least the avocados that go in them. Sliced avocado on corn chips is one of my absolute favorite snacks.

Homemade Guacamole

Over the years I’ve come to find that guacamole is one of those things you don’t really need a recipe for. Depending on how simple you want to keep it, you more than likely won’t need more than just a few basic ingredients you’ve probably already got in your pantry.

Super Bowl Sunday may be over but hey, avocados are a healthy addition to your diet any time of the year!
They are good sources of folate or folic acid. What’s the deal with folate? Low dietary intake of folate has been associated with increasing the levels of homocysteine, a risk factor linked with coronary heart disease and stroke, although a direct relationship between folate intake and heart disease has not yet been conclusively shown. High homocysteine levels have also been associated with an increased likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
