So, I made her a glass block light for Hanukkah. I hopes she likes it!

You can make a glass block light for any occasion. Here are the steps to take.

Kathy Zengolewicz

Here is what you will need to get started

One 8×8x4 Glass block

A Power drill

½ inch diamond drill bit

A strand of 35 mini lights (with only one plug on the end=no female plug end

Wide ribbon(with wire)

A large bow

Clip art or photos

Glass sealer (I use Envirotec)

For the block: drill a ½ inch hole in one of the flat sides of the glass block using the diamond drill bit. The hole can be located on the bottom, on the side of the block. This is where the light strand cord will hang out of.

After drilling the hole, rinse the glass block out with tap water to remove any glass dust. Allow the inside to completely air dry; it should take a day or two.

Print your clip art or photo on a full sheet label. Hold the label up to the glass block and measure to make sure that it will fit.

Apply the label to the front and back of the glass block and spray with glass sealer (Envirotec) and let dry. Once it is dry, affix the ribbon around the sides of the glass block and use a bit of hot glue to help it stick.

Lastly, attach the bow to the top center and you’re done. You will have a beautiful lighted decoration to use anywhere you choose. Enjoy!

Happy Hanukkah from Blisstree pets! Hanukkah begins today and goes until December 18th. Over the course of the next eight nights, ceremonial candles are lit on a menorah in Jewish households worldwide.

Menorahs can be found in many different styles and for pretty much any taste. For animal lovers specifically, I found this cute little handpainted ceramic dog menorah at Amazon.com, and it comes complete with the eight spots for the eight candles, as well as the ninth in the middle to hold the shamash, or auxiliary, candle.

The base is also decorated with little paw prints.

Cat lovers aren’t left out, though, as I also found a really cute cat menorah. It’s also handpainted ceramic, and has the standard eight candle holders as well as a spot for the shamash, and its base is decorated with orange and pink mice.

Both are available at Amazon for under $30 each (plus shipping and handling, of course), and though it’s a bit late for this year’s Hanukkah, they’d make a great addition to a collection or the perfect gift for the pet lover in your life next year!

But anyway, back to the news. It was actually about a synagogue in Orange County. What they did was they cooked this huge pancake and they made use of an oven that got power straight from the sun. This synagogue is the Temple of Isaiah which you can find in Newport Beach.

The cooking of the giant pancake happened during the first night of the celebration of Hanukkah. They made this potato pancake which measured at an estimated 3 feet. On this, the rabbi of the synagogue, Marc Rubenstein, said in his sermon, “We are our brother’s keeper, and we also have to take care of the Earth.”

Nice.
