I hope you enjoyed the last two recipes I gave you for Bath Salts. It’s nice to take some time and soak in the tub. It relieves stress and put moisture into your skin. You especially need that moisture when the weather turns cold. I know that a lot of people like to take bubble baths, yours truly include, so I have a couple of recipes for you today. The first one is Rose Bubble Bath. This is silky to the touch.

Kathy Zengolewicz

Here is what you will need to get started:

1 tbsp of glycerin

15 drops of rose fragrance oil

2 drops of red liquid coloring

Gently mix all of the ingredients until well blended.

As you can see this doesn’t take a lot of time or energy, but wait until you feel the richness on your skin.

Sea Bubbles Foaming Bath Oil

This recipe is great for dry skin. The mixture will separate in the bottle, so shake it well before using.

Kathy Zengolewicz

Here is what you will need to get started:

½ cup of liquid soap

2 drops of blue liquid coloring

1 tbsp of glycerin

½ cup of sweet almond oil

20 drops of spearmint fragrance oil

6 drops of sage fragrance oil

½ tsp of white pearl mica powder

Gently mix all of the ingredients until well blended.

Taking a long relaxing bubble bath is just what you need at the end of a hard day whether you’re coming home from work or from a hard day of shopping! Enjoy!

I found a very nice read today, pointed out to me by Mike Street of Reader’s Digest Online: an article entitled 31 Simple Ways to Prevent Cancer. Some very practical tips presented in a sorta funny way but with a big ring of truth into it.
Besides, before we all get rattled by the recent cancer scare on cellphone use and other stuff, really the prevention (or at least reducing our risk of developing any cancer later in life) all boils down to the dietary and lifetsyle changes each of us are willing to take, IMHO.
Anyways, here goes in bullets only:

Besides, before we all get rattled by the recent cancer scare on cellphone use and other stuff, really the prevention (or at least reducing our risk of developing any cancer later in life) all boils down to the dietary and lifetsyle changes each of us are willing to take, IMHO.

Anyways, here goes in bullets only:

Serve sauerkraut at your next picnic.

Eat your fill of broccoli, but steam it rather than microwaving it.

Toast some Brazil nuts and sprinkle over your salad.

Pop a calcium supplement with vitamin D.

Add garlic to everything you eat.

Sauté two cloves of crushed garlic in 2 tablespoons of olive oil,

Every week, buy a cantaloupe at the grocery store and cut it up after you put away your groceries.

Mix half a cup of blueberries into your morning cereal.

Learn to eat artichokes tonight.

Coat barbecue food with a thick sauce.

Every time you go to the bathroom, stop by the kitchen or water cooler for a glass of water.

Take up a tea habit.

Have a beer tonight.

Throw some salmon on the grill tonight.

Take a multivitamin every morning.

Get about 15 minutes of sunlight on your skin each day.

Carry a shot glass in your beach bag.

Cut a kiwifruit in half, then scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

Use a condom and stick to one partner.

Cut out high-fat animal protein.

Have your partner feed you grapes.

Sprinkle scallions over your salad.

Make a batch of fresh lemonade or limeade.

Take a 30-minute walk every evening after dinner.

Buy organic foods.

Learn to love dandelions.

Buy clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned.

Choose cucumbers over pickles, fresh salmon over lox.

Switch from french fries and potato chips to mashed potatoes and pretzels.

Go for a spray-on tan.

Call up your bowling pal and hit the lanes.

My kind of list exactly. Yours too. Read the full details from RD.

Added by me 3 hours later after publishing, last in this list but certainly not the least:

32. Stop smoking!

What was I thinking not adding this earlier?! Thanks a lot to commenter Kat for the reminder.

Although that is true, we cannot just decide one day to pick up a healthier diet (like increasing the intake of fruits and veggies!!) and be assured we won’t increase or risk of developing any cancer type.
One cannot just erase one’s history of unhealthy eating and lifestyle, right? How can one erase something like not giving fruits, veggies and fish a second look during the first 30 years of your life?!

Ever heard of the words: from cradle to grave? That’s also the period of time we all should be living healthy, not only against cancer but also against any other serious medical condition.

As of late, here are the most recent reports that involves nutrition and cancer:

Genetics play a key role in cancer. It is as much to blame as the stuff we eat and all other elements we expose ourselves to – factors that predispose humans to cancer.

However, we can still choose to live a healthy life by choosing what we eat and adjusting our lifestyle – not the be-all and end-all of getting rid of cancer but this we can still do pre or post-cancer.

While it irritates us (it irritates me!) when experts say that it is something in our genes that’s why we get cancer, or Alzheimer’s or diabetes – making it sound like it is our fault we are sick, like we are born to get cancer or something.

But then breakthroughs in genetics have helped unlock more and more clues to the treatment of cancer and other serious diseases.

In this context, I leave you the following wonderful links I found today.

New Study Isolates 5 Breast Cancer Genes
Tomatoes can help Send Cancer Packing
Making Decisions for a Healthy Life

If not already, I hope we can find the right balance between genetics and lifestyle in the prevention and management of cancer.

Something like: you, case no. 1…we blame 75 percent of your cancer to genetics, therefore you must do 125 percent adjustment to your lifestyle (environment and food) so we can treat it. While you, case no. 2…50 percent of your cancer is because of your unhealthy lifestyle, diet and environment…we’ll redesign your genes a 150% so we can get rid of your cancer.

Whew! If only it is an equation as simple as that.

I think I am watching too much cartoon TV these days…blame it to my 4-year old son.

In my honest opinion, cancer is the ultimate (bad) karma to mankind for being so harsh to the body and the environment.

Cancer I believe is the proliferation of the worst permutations of G x E: Genetics and Environment.

That been said, I came up with the top ten cancer beaters in the order of things most controllable to man to the least controllable:

Go natural. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk foods, microwable and instant foods, canned goods and cured meat products. Eat more fish. Think antioxidants, flavonoids and the likes. Furthermore, go organic. Grow your own vegetables in your backyard or even in pots if that is possible.

Take vitamin supplements: most specially Vitamins C and E.

STOP smoking.

Moderate your alcohol intake. Think more grape wine.

Exercise. Take long walks. Do yoga or any stress management training.

Replace some of your coffee cups with tea (especially green tea) on top of fresh fruit juices.

Live a healthy lifestyle. Strive for less stress. Be happier. Stay away from pollution. Lessen your contribution to pollution. Take ample amount of sleep.

Visit your doctor for a complete medical check-up at least once a year.

Meditate. Pray to God for good health and positive emotions. Whoever and whatever you conceive God to be.

It’s in your genes? If it is, don’t do anything that will alter it more into cancer genes. Therefore DO more of the above.

In beating cancer, prevention is better than treatment. And treatment will work better at early cancer detection. So be vigilant, regularly (at least once a year) visit your doctor. You know your body more than anybody else, when you feel something weird or if you think that there is something weird, seek an oncologist and have tests conducted on you especially if you are at a higher risk.

With cancer I think it is better to be paranoid, particularly if you are in teh high-risk demographic, as long as you seek professional help to appease that paranoia. Researching on your own wouldn’t hurt as long as you refrain from speculating and trust that the experts are there to help you.

Maybe it’s in one of those mushy movies that I love watching where I heard that cancer is angst, cynicism and frustrations stucked deep inside us. The explanation or mechanism of action may be beyond scientific comprehension but it is already known that when a person cultivates negative emotions, it creates a rackus in our body’s system: immune, excretory, digestive, circulatory –potential precursors of cancers.

So be positive and let go of negative vibes. Stop living on the fast lane. Pause and sleep and rest on regular intervals and be careful of what you eat. If you are in a congested city, seek fresh, crisp air once in a while and smell the roses, literally and figuratively.
