There is so much offered here on our lil’ ol’ science and health channel. I picked a few posts that were useful for diabetics… and a few that are just darn good! Enjoy.
Scott over at Health and Men offers up … Diabetes is a wide spread and ever so growing disease. In fact more that 21 million Americans (lets not forget the rest of the world too) suffer from diabetes. I know what your saying, “Diabetes doesn’t effect me…but what can I do to help or make a difference?”. Or thats what I’m hoping your saying.

Here is what you can do. Go online to diabetes.org/stepout or call 1-866-605-STEP.

Ruth at Eating Fabulous shares… Looking for a place to dine out where you can have healthy meals? Try searching for a restaurant participating in the Healthy Dining Program using the Healthy Dining Finder

Sara finds this tid bit interesting at Healthbolt… It’s making for lots of buzz, but it’s unlikely. Though stem cells infected with adenovirus have been shown to convert to fat cells (in the lab), this hasn’t been proven in humans and the chance that this would play a legitimate role in skyrocketing obesity rates is, um, slim. (Adenovirus-36 causes the common cold and eye infections.)

And finally we have a great mental health blog here at b5media, Mental Health Notes. Alicia has so much to offer and since we know that diabetes and depression goes hand in hand, go check the site out.

Then there is our newest site here at the science and health channel… Breaking the Mirror, which has little to do with diabetes but everything to do with eating disorders. Julie is our newest blogger and I welcome all that she has to share. She is a very powerful writer so refer her, read her or just go browse around. You will enjoy and learn all at the same time!

Some weeks there is gobs and gobs of new and exciting research, abstracts and info and others, well… They are kinda like this week.

Ok, not a whole lot on the diabetes front this morning. Some weeks there is gobs and gobs of new and exciting research, abstracts and info and others, well… They are kinda like this week. There is some stuff out there but it is all revisiting what we have already covered. And quite honestly, what is the point of me explaining the basics of diabetes or the how and when diabetes occurs. I think it would be almost insulting to attempt to give y’all a physiology lesson this morning in our old friend diabetes. So… I won’t!

And I don’t have any exciting or “funny at the expense of me” type stories to share. My diabetes has been quite boring lately. I guess that is a good thing! My blood sugars have been great and I have been eating more than my fair share of very healthy meals. I have never been a big food person, but I am really not into the whole snacky junk food thing at all. I am enjoying the summer fruits and veggies by the grilling master, ie. my hubby. You would be amazed at what you can grill! So yeah, my numbers are fab.

Do you find a difference in your numbers in the summer and winter months? Does the outdoors make you exercise more, eat healthier and be a “better” diabetic? Just wondering. I find it hard to be unhealthy in the summer.
