Not all headaches are warnings of a stroke, not all chest pains are the onset of a heart attack, you need to learn the signs to look for. If you have shortness of breath and sweating, this is your body telling you that something more serious going on.

There are normal headaches caused by stress, eyestrain or allergies this type of headache will fade. If the headaches persist you should see your health care provider. If you experience a headache that feels as if your head will explode and it persists you need to see your health care provider immediately, this could be the sign of bleeding in the brain.

Patients going to an emergency room that are aware of what is going on within their body, can actually help the doctor to diagnose their problem more efficiently.

I found an article that has six serious medical symptoms listed, that would be great to copy and place somewhere so that you could have easy access to it.

When you really stop and think about it, aren’t you more active in the summer months than the winter months? I think I am with the pool, walks in the evenings and running with the kids all day long. So this little tidbit of information shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

A five-year study found people treated in the summer were on average 8% more likely to see their blood pressure come down to healthy levels.

These same findings were reported from 15 VA hospitals across the US. Not only are blood pressure’s elevated in the winter months but the incidence of stroke and heart attacks are also higher. Is it the slowed activity, the colder weather and thus vasoconstriction or the salty “winter”type hot foods that we consume? Maybe it is all of the above.

There is a new tool out there to help patients that suffer from heart failure. HeartFailureCenter.com was developed to help consolidate information and provide a “one stop shop” if you will…

The new site is replete with a wide variety of information, from a patient health survey, heart condition information, treatment options and regional resource directories, to an extensive article library, blog, chat room, and the latest news and media clips featuring top experts in the field. There is even a printable list of “Questions to ask your Doctor,” a tool to help patients make the most of their medical visits.

Heart failure is an overwhelming disease for many, and having the tools and resources to make informed treatment decisions is very welcomed indeed. If you live with heart failure on a daily basis, go check it out. Let me know what you think.

The site is very easy to navigate and has some great resources. I am very excited at the service that it could provide!

With that being said, are you prepared to administer CPR at home if need be?
According to the American Heart Association 80% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home so being trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation can mean the difference between life and death for a loved one.

This is very important as it is pool and water season among the Northern hemisphere. It is important to stay current with CPR as well- as it changes every so often based on research and clinical trials and practices. The number of chest compressions has increased as of late. Are you prepared?

Medtronic disclosed the latest issue early Monday, saying that it decided to pull the “Sprint Fidelis” brand of leads for defibrillators, or ICDs, because they are prone to fracturing and potentially causing major problems. The issue may have contributed to five deaths, Medtronic said.
Here we go again. This can’t be good given the already dark shadow that was cast upon ICD’s in the major recall that occurred in 2005. And because of limited supplies Medtronic won’t be able to re-supply patients until later in the fiscal year.
Here we go again. This can’t be good given the already dark shadow that was cast upon ICD’s in the major recall that occurred in 2005. And because of limited supplies Medtronic won’t be able to re-supply patients until later in the fiscal year. I think it is safe to say that there will be an enormous monetary implication due to this.

If you have concerns, put a call into your doctor and they will put a call into consultants for Medtronic. Remember that with this recall, the wires are the culprit, which have always been an issue when it comes to implantable defibrillators, and not the box itself. Also remember that the risk of the wires splicing has to out way the risk of removing the wires from your chest, after scar tissue has adhered and such.

What do you think this will do to the multi billion ICD industry? Or is this just another little bump in the road?
