When I go to a coffee shop, it’s a little different. I might order a mocha or a latte, but I feel foolish saying words like “venti” or “grande.” Instead I say, “I’d like a medium-sized latte with nonfat.”

I had a boyfriend who would give  an order that went something like, “Give me a triple shot venti in your smallest cup….” I was confused by this because I thought “venti” referred to size of the cup. This man was happiest with a cup of coffee in his hand. He had a big fancy machine that he used to make coffee at home. He would bang and clang and make the noise of 5 of your average baristas. He was serious about coffee.

I found an article on coffee and horoscope, which I found to be entertaining, but not very accurate. Both the ex and myself are Leos.  Here’s what a Leo might order (or in my case, not so much)……..

Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Face it. Every Starbucks customer knows there’s a whole other language being used beyond those clean glass doors. Leo thrives on the pseudo-Euro drink names and the insider’s jargon that rolls off their tongue with a seeming lack of effort. That’s why this dramatic, showy soul is more likely to order the Dulce de Leche Latte, Venti as a favorite drink than any other. Besides, with all that caramel and sweet milk, the big pussycat living inside every Leo’s heart will lick its whiskers with great relish!

Horoscope and Your Coffee Order

Leo (July 23-August 22)

A Florida woman, upset that her local McDonald’s had run out of Chicken McNuggets, phoned the 911 emergency service line for help. In an unrelated incident, a Florida man took the same action when Burger King told him it had no lemonade to sell him. I recommend that you not indulge in similar overreactions in the coming week, Leo. The Drama Queen or Drama King archetype is threatening to possess you, and I suspect you’ll have to act forcefully to keep it away. If you’re successful, you’ll be visited by a far more congenial archetype — the Social Butterfly. And that would prove to be amusing and productive.
 

Uh oh. I do tend to lean toward the dramatic. It’s not my intention to be that way, but it is my nature. It is something that I try to avoid all the time, a trait that I have worked on at length.I take a deep breath, but I’m pretty sure that there is an eye-roll before the the breath, so even that could be interpreted as dramatic.

I have a man who is wonderful and sweet, but sometimes he’s not easy for me to understand. Sometimes I just don’t get it.  I really have to curb my dramatic tendencies around him. I can’t get offended if he’s only teasing me and I misconstrue his sometimes dry sense of humor for seriousness. He loves me, his intentions toward me are always going to come from a place of love. I know that.

Learning to get along with people, to relax and just roll with it, those are issues that I work on all the time. I used to be a bit prickley. Now I do my best to be prickle-free.

Leos Can Be Such Drama Queens

“The Amazing Race” is a reality TV show in which two-member teams compete for money and prizes by doing odd feats in exotic locales. One especially stupid and awesome task they performed was carrying 50-pound wheels of cheese down a slippery hill in Switzerland. Everyone started out hauling the wheels on cumbersome wooden backpacks, but hardly anyone was able to make it to the bottom without falling, breaking the backpacks, and having to manually herd the runaway cheese the rest of the way. I foresee a similar fate for you, Leo. You’ll be asked to do things that are both fun and frustrating, all in a cause that in the long run will be worthwhile.

Hhmm. My life is already fun and frustrating. I want sexy! exciting! or at the very least something along the lines of, “…you will enjoy a good long nap.”  I do love to sleep.

I am a fan of  The Amazing Race show and they end up doing some crazy tasks. One involved counting the slats on a very long fence. You think it would be easy, but it wasn’t. I think I remember a bunch of costumed people trying to mess them up. It was some sort of local custom. Very odd, but also oddly entertaining.

If I had to guess on this one, which I guess I do, I’d guess that the “fun and frustrating” would be making room in my house for another person to someday move in. I need to get rid of a good amount of my stuff, because I do not want him looking around thinking, “Oh there’s no way I can fit in here.” 

I have a hard time letting go. You would not believe how hard it is for me to part with something like a paperback book (books are my friends!!). It has to be done. It is going to be worth it “in the long run.”

Frustration, here I come!

Fun and Frustration Ahead For Leos

This Week’s Love Forecast

Okay, I picked Libra this week, because my boyfriend is a Libra and I am just goofy enough to be as interested in  his horoscope as I am in my own.

Okay, here goes………

Cracked.com ran an article on “5 Things You Think Will Make You Happy (But Won’t).” Here’s a hint about what those things are: fame, wealth, beauty, genius, and power. You might want to go and read the essay at tinyurl.com/d974te. Even if you don’t entirely agree with its points, it should inspire you to get more realistic about what specifically does increase your levels of well-being. It happens to be an excellent phase of your astrological cycle to home in on the surprising and idiosyncratic truths about what helps you feel like you belong here on this planet.

Here’s my interpretation, in relation to my guy - he values connection. He wants friends and love. He might think about the other things, I’m sure that he enjoys feeling success and I know he loves his iPhone, so money does cross his mind, but what really gives him a happy is the connection he shares with the people in his life. I believe that he knows this about himself already. He’s willing to make some huge changes in his life to bring about that happiness. That part of him, that value that he attaches to his relationships, that’s the base that I build all my feelings for him on. It makes him 10 feet tall in my eyes.

I was involved with a man who did not put that first, I can remember when he talked about moving an additional 3 hours away from his children and from me  (putting him about 9 hours away from me) for a job. Great. More money. Enjoy that all by yourself, if that’s what you want, fine, but I’m looking for something more.

I’m like the boyfriend that I have now. Having a happy family, good friends, that is what I believe a successful life requires.

 There are some things you can compromise on in a relationship and it’s up to the individual couple to decide what those things are. What matters to you?  What makes you happy?  Ask yourself these questions. Dig deep. When that initial attraction cools a bit, that’s when the importance of shared values and goals really matters.

What Matters To You?

So, horoscope. The logical place to start any sort of get-it-together endeavor, right?  Okay, maybe not, but they are fun and it’s late. Fun is all I’m up for. Here you go Leos and if you are one of those other less lucky, less royal-signs, you can find it here. (Just playing the role of Leo, I love all people born at any time, I promise).

French President Sarkozy’s best friend, advertising mogul Jacques Seguela, has an unusual way of measuring success. If you don’t own a Rolex watch by the time you’re 50, he says, you’re a failure. I’m inclined to propose the opposite: If you do have a Rolex watch, no matter what age you are, you’re probably a failure. To be attached to such a conspicuous status symbol is a sign that your values are dominated by the transitory trivialities of materialism. Where do you stand on the matter, Leo? It’s a good time to think about it, because you’re in a phase when clarifying your definitions of high achievement is important.

I have no Rolex-envy of any sort. Not a fan of the sort of status symbols you can buy. Sitting on the patio, in the Summer sun, surrounded by loved ones, that is my idea of success. I quest for love, never stuff. I measure wealth in kisses and hugs. Connection is my way of insuring future wealth. Cheesy, sure, but true.

I suppose that means I’m doing what I should be doing by figuring out where and what I want to be with my new man. Good to know I’m on track there.

Connection Is My Currency

This horoscope presents three clues for you to work with. Here is how this relates to me – I’m a romantic relationship writer with no romantic relationship to write about. I have all the advice in the world for anyone who cares to query me, but in the case of myself, I’m frozen in time and space. I think about wanting to try again – I sometimes stick my toe in the dating pool, but then I pull it out, put my flip flop back on, and run quickly in the other direction.

What is the point? I ask myself this question daily. I feel that no matter how much work I put into my last relationship, no matter how much that man loved me, he suddenly just stopped and I have no idea why. To love someone, you put yourself at another person’s mercy and sometimes that’s too scary to contemplate.

On the other hand, I know that I am good in a relationship. I’ve learned a lot over the years about what does and does not make a good partner and the one thing that I know I am good at, the one thing that I’m told time again and again by friend and family – I’m very supportive.

I need something, someone, to support. I want to join a team, a team of two. A duo. Pick me, pick me! No wait, I think I’ll skip the game and go read a book. Or ride my bike. Or head out with my camera. Anything but make eye contact with an attractive man, because I’m too damn scared and I don’t ever want to spend another day feeling like I felt for much of the last year. Unimportant, unlovable, invisible. It sucked.

I’ll do my best to follow the advise of Free Will Astrology, because it’s good advice, but the healing is going to take me awhile.

Looking to the Moon and the Stars …

I picked up one our local weekly papers and this is what my horoscope said:

Happy Holy Daze Leo!

If I could give you one gift for the holidays, it might be a magic object to add to your love altar – something like a pomegranate resting on red velvet, or a golden heart-shaped magnet or Pablo Neruda’s book 100 Love Sonnets. What?  You don’t have a love altar? Well then please begin creating one as soon as possible, and continue building it throughout 2009. For the next 12 months, the time will be right to get smarter, wilder, and kinder in your approach to creating an intimate connection.

Wow, that sounds exciting!! (Read it like this, “X-cite-TING!) 

I’m going to get to work on my “love altar” right away. Any suggestions? Candles, of course, I can probably find something great from my favorite soy candlemaker.  I like to keep sea shells (another fish in the sea?) and plants close to my bed, so they seem fitting.

Possibly a picture of Robert Pattinson?  No, that’s probably pushing it, aiming a bit too high. I wonder if Robert Pattinson has a slightly older brother, or an uncle?
