Both dogs and people need exercise to fight off obesity. And just letting the dog outside doesn’t guarantee proper exercise. “Obesity is a big problem in pets, just as it is with people, and exercising helps keep the dog’s weight down,” says Kansas State veterinarian Dr. Susan Nelson.
Nelson says that exercising with your dog offers more than just physical health benefits. It reinforces the human-animal bond and provides an outlet to release energy that may otherwise develop into naughty behavior.

Martha Stewart Honored for Pet Compassion

Martha Stewart will be awarded the ASPCA Presidential Service Award on April 23 at a black-tie gala in the Plaza Hotel in New York City. She’s being honored for her dedication to promoting compassion toward animals and her celebration of the human-animal bond.
In a recent news release from ASPCA, Martha Stewart said, “My life has been greatly enriched by the many pets I have cared for over the years. I am deeply committed to the values the ASPCA embraces, and am honored to be receiving this award.”
