IGI Receives National Cancer Institute Grant

IGI, INC. announced that it has received, a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the National Cancer Institute to evaluate the safety and therapeutic potential of parathyroid hormone PTH (7-34) analog to treat alopecia induced by chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.
In previous animal testing, IGI “successfully formulated PTH 7-34 into its proprietary Novasome encapsulation technology, and the treatment both stimulated and maintained hair growth in mice. This next round of testing will be performed on human subjects under the oversight of Dr. Michael Holick at Boston University.

A few news bullets on IGI, the pharmaceutical company that, among other things, is working on a topical treatment for chemotherapy-induced alopecia…

On 7 December, the company announced it had received $250K, the initial payment on a $1 million licensing arrangement with DermWorx. In addition, IGI entered into a one year $1 million line of credit with PharmaChem Laboratories. (Sounds like IGI is gearing up for something… or perhaps struggling to make ends meet.) Finally, IGI announced that Rajiv Mathur was resigning from the Board.

IGI Given Warning by AMEX

Back in April I told you about IGI, a Jersey based company that was trying to develop a treatment that prevented chemotherapy related alopecia. Well, it seems things aren’t going real well for the small firm. On Friday IGI were given a warning by the American Stock Exchange that their financials weren’t up to snuff. Specifically, shareholder equity is too low, and annual operating losses are occurring too frequently. Possible PTH Based Treatments for Chemotherapy Induced Baldness

I came across this press release for IGI, Inc., a New Jersey based company that is “committed to growth by applying proprietary technologies to achieve cost-effective solutions for varied customer needs.” (Is that management double-speak or what?) Their technologies focus on methods of delivering skin care products, and their customer list includes big names such as Johnson & Johnson and Estee Lauder.
