Many times my mom sat by my bed when I didn’t feel well. She took my temperature, put cool cloths on my forehead, read and sang to me. When I was feeling better, but still too ill to attend school, I lay on the couch in our farmhouse kitchen while Mother worked, but was near.

Then our roles were reversed, and I cared for Mother as she developed Alzheimer’s. I remember sitting beside her bed in the nursing home after she broke her hip. Mother seemed to become very depressed at that time and was confused about many things . As I sat there, I’d get the sense she didn’t want to make the effort to go on. So I’d read and talk to her, write letters and nap, too. I maintained this vigil almost daily for a couple of weeks.

Gradually Mother began to take an interest in her surroundings again as her hip healed. There’s a good chance she was in pain in the early days but couldn’t tell us. She never walked again, but lived eight more years to give us joy and love and be a part of our lives.

Dog owners are being warned of a new outbreak of parvo called Canine Parvovirus Type 2c, a highly contagious viral disease.

Parvo attacks the dog’s intestines and typically causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, resulting in weight loss and possible death. Dozens of dogs have died from it this winter — 23 in Michigan in the last two weeks alone — and many more are possibly infected.

Even Oprah, who just ten days ago showed off her two new cocker spaniel puppies, Ivan and Sadie, has already had one of the pups succumb to the illness while the other is currently being treated as she hadn’t yet received her second immunization.

One theory suggests that the reason the illness is spreading so quickly is because fewer pet owners are able to afford the vaccinations. Vets suggest keeping unvaccinated puppies away from other dogs and puppies, and when walking your dog be aware of dog feces on the ground, especially now that snow is melting and exposing waste that wasn’t cleaned up earlier.

The crud. Aside from some terrible allergies we were fine, then Zack woke around 11:30 last night with a fever. Now I’ve got the squirts. Hubbby didn’t go to work. Ainsley went off to school, but it wouldn’t surprise me to get a call from the nurse. So, in lieu of a super original post I thought I’d let Blog Fabulous readers check out the baby poll from So Sioux Me.

I took a photo of my baby and my in-laws baby. One is a girl and one is a boy. 65% of readers believed Zack was a girl. Zack’s the baby on the bottom, isn’t he as pretty as any girl baby?

How am I going to scrapbook that? (Like the baby book hasn’t been shoved in a box for over a year where it will likely stay for another. ha.)
