Celebrate International Nurses Day Today

Florence Nightingale’s birthday is a cause for celebration!
Many still consider her the founder of modern nursing. In 1974, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) picked Nightingale’s birthday, May 12, for International Nurses Day.
ICN represents millions of nurses worldwide, and they work to influence health policy around the globe. Read their positions statements on breastfeeding and more online.
Have you taken time out to consider all the ways that nurses have helped you? After all, you most likely have more contact with them than doctors.

International Nurses Day

May 12 is International Nurses Day. Celebrated by the International Council of Nurses since 1965, the day marks the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, widely held to be the mother of modern nursing.
According to the Center for American Nurses, in 2004 there were 2.9 million registered nurses in the United States, 94.3 percent of whom are women. The average age of an RN in the US is $6.8 and 60 percent work in hospitals.
