Featured Mom blog: Scribbit

I’ve been reading Scribbit for quite some time and if you head over to the blog yourself, I think you’ll be able to see why. Michelle writes every day (every day!) from her home in Alaska. That alone makes it interesting to me, because life way up North is a little different from your average blogger, and as a Montrealer I automatically appreciate someone who understand the “WOW IT’S COLD” sentiment in the dead of Winter.
That aside though? Michelle shares stories about her four kids, gives tips on kid-friendly crafts and activities (I’ve used many of her …read more

Featured Mom blog: Stop, Drop, and Blog

I met FireMom of Stop, Drop, and Blog online back when she was pregnant with her first baby and I was pregnant with my second. We were both part of a November baby community. I couldn’t tell you what anyone else in that group is up to now, but something about FireMom lured me over to her blog and I’ve been reading there for almost three years now.
FireMom is married to FireDad and she offers up a great mish-mash of cute kid stories, even cuter kid stories, fire safety/prevention tips, and a huge amount of good reading. …read more

Featured Mom blog: Ordering Disorder

I love to cook. I always have. I don’t make big gourmet meals, and unlike my father, I won’t make roses out of tomatoes and tulips out of radishes but I do make tasty meals. Before kids, I was happy to make lengthy recipes, easily spending an hour at my counter prepping a dish for that night’s supper. Since having kids, I just don’t have the luxury of that much time. Really, I don’t have the energy either. If I have an hour of spare time, I’d rather lie on the couch with the …read more

Featured Mom blogger: One Mother of a Blog

I don’t know about you, but while I enjoy a variety of blogs, the vast majority of the ones I read regularly are written by mothers. Because of that, I thought that I would start featuring Mom Blogs for those of you who would possibly enjoy reading them as well. If you have any to suggest – your own or one you love to read – please feel free to let me know by emailing me at the address in the sidebar.
I’ve found that most Mom Blogs are written by mothers in their 20s or 30s, with a …read more

Solve your disputes online?

Have you ever fought with your husband over parenting issues? Please, I think most of us have. I tend to be the heavy while my husband is the softie. It’s annoying, but it is what it is.
However, with us, it’s mostly little things. He’ll put on a movie for them at a time when I probably wouldn’t, telling them that maybe they should go play with their 5000 toys instead. That sort of thing. It’s nothing major.
But if you’re fighting over parenting issues all the time and you’re at an impasse, would you let …read more

Moms Are A Different Breed

I’ve mentioned before Ruby’s intense desire for food. She’s not one to wait, so earlier last month she took measures into her own hands and climbed atop the counter to get herself a Num-a-Num (banana).
Knowing that this fourth child is really made out of rubber, I didn’t run to get the baby down. Instead, I ran and got my camera to take this shot.

I was reminded of this today when I saw Lil Duck’s “You Know You’re A Mom When…” post. Here’s what got me, “A quiet house alerts you that something is wrong.” Quiet either …read more

Bindi Irwin Tours With The Wiggles

While most of us are still toting some wounds from the recent departure of our favorite Wiggle, and lingering sadness over the death of Steve Irwin, it’s nice to see that these two are teaming up to tour the US. Um, Bindi and the Wiggles, not Steve Irwin and the yellow Wiggle.
The young wildlife warrior said her high-energy show, called Bindi And The Crocmen, would have Americans on their feet. The Crocmen are three men who will perform alongside her.
“We’re doing some dances, which will be really fun because all the people get to get up and dance along …read more

Breastfeeding And Smarts Saved Kim’s Kids

UPDATE: James Kim’s Body Was Found Earlier Today
Kati Kim has emerged a hero after keeping her wits about her and bringing her two young children to safety after their 10 day ordeal snowed in their car.
They ran the heater in their station wagon until the car was out of gas, then burned all the tires in a desperate attempt to keep warm. When the food ran out, Kati Kim breastfed her two young daughters to keep them alive.
Another tip here if you are ever in a situation like this. If you are no longer breastfeeding, allowing your children …read more

Porn On A MacBook Bought From The Apple Store

A father in England was recently surprised when, after buying a refreshed Macbook from the local Apple Store for his 11 year old daughter, he found ‘a desktop full of porn’ the store didn’t clean off before selling the notebook. He quickly formatted the harddrive and installed OS X, but not before calling his local MP to complain.
That’s rather scary, considering a less discerning customer with a slightly older child might have just given the computer over to daughter without even doing a cursory glance. It’s one thing to miss a folder hidden in the system area, but …read more
