Hello, my name is Jennifer, and I am married to a CrackBerry addict. For two years he used daily, often neglecting important things like yard work and refilling my wine glass. But I was an enabler. I would e-mail and text him constantly while he was at work, and knew it was the best – and often only way – to get a speedy reply.

But then I got an iPhone and began the process of switching many of our services to AT&T. The bundling reduced our monthly bills, and would benefit us more if I could pull Rick over from our former provider once his contract renewed in January. It was an opportunity for him to upgrade from his CrackBerry Pearl. He could have the new Blackberry Storm or better yet, switch to the iPhone. He was reluctant. After all, he was addict.

Just after he ordered his last stash – a new CrackBerry Pearl – I convinced him to give the iPhone a try. After all, we were an Apple family. We have a iMac, MacBook, iPod and my iPhone. We even own about $2 worth of Apple stock. It made sense for us to share our vices. I did eventually win him over. But, we never ended up returning his new-in-box, never-been-touched BlackBerry Pearl 8100.

The box says it comes with the phone, SIM card, battery & charger, headset, USB cable, BlackBerry Desktop Software CD (I believe it’s for Windows, so good luck if you’re an Apple user), Get Started poster, and reference guide.

After months of hanging on to it for no reason I thought I’d gift it to a friend. But all my friends are iPhone users. So, to you CrackBerry heads, it’s yours for the taking. Just leave me a charming comment by Thursday, April 23, and I’ll devise some random way to select a winner and announce it the next day, Friday, April 24.

However, it clearly states on my can of “Ready Strip” that it has to be 67 degrees fahrenheit in order to use the product. Not to mention that it’s been raining for 3 days. Perfect reasons to delay the project don’t you think? (read: procrastination)

So I did what any handyperson-challenged gal would do, I began to shop on-line. Which is, it occurs to me, procrastinating while procrastinating.

But instead of buying the new Bobbi Brown blush that I’ve been wanting, I came across a snippet about CNET’s Veronica Belmont (electronics industry geek)–who demonstrates for ZDNet.com how to transform an iPod into a voice recorder, a laser pointer and a language translator–giving you the business justification you need to use the music player at the office.

Each of these slight tune-ups, requires a specific accessory for the ipod, but unless you’re walking around the halls listening to Cold Play during working hours…what is there to justify?

A laser pointer? I ask you. This device has procrastination (read: playtime at work) written all over it.

Maybe I’ll scrape tomorrow.

Toys At The Office

In case you knew they existed, but didn’t quite get the true definition, here’s a refresher from podcastalley.com:

Just think about what you can do with a podcast at work. Let’s use the weekly staff meeting as an example (the logistics of which make you want to take a nap.):

• First and foremost: book a conference room
• Order the bagels and coffee
• Write an agenda
• Muck about on issues that got should have been in the “parking space”
• Set up a separate meeting for “parking space” issues
• Transcribe the notes (’cause your assistant will be sick that day)
• Follow up.

Now, all you have to do is record all your info and relevant (read cool) images on a podcast (not the photo of you and your dog though) upload it to your department’s shared hard drive, ask people to read and respond and you’re done.
