‘The Biggest Loser’ & Their Childhood Obesity Press Tour Completely Ignore Body Acceptance

‘The Biggest Loser’ & Their Childhood Obesity Press Tour Completely Ignore Body Acceptance

Months ago, we learned that Jillian Michaels would be returning to The Biggest Loser to tackle a very important and delicate topic: childhood obesity. At the time, I questioned whether the show and the new mother of two would really help teens in a healthy way or just exacerbate other body image issues. Now, the press tour for the three teenagers participating in The Biggest Loser is starting, and it looks like our previous concerns were valid. In all of the talking points thrown around during the PR introductions, body acceptance is notably absent. More »

Jillian Michaels Defends Crazy Expensive Diet Delivery Plan To Pissed-Off Fans

Jillian Michaels Defends Crazy Expensive Diet Delivery Plan To Pissed-Off Fans

Jillian Michaels is basically the personal trainer for small-town America. Between her fitness DVDs, diet books, and TV appearances, the tough-love-giving fitness expert has won over millions of regular folks, who look to her for weight loss advice. But the thing about regular folks is that these days, they’re kind of strapped for cash. Which could explain the 400+ angry comments that Jillian got on her Facebook page last night, when she shared a link for her specially-formatted Freshology diet meal delivery plan. It runs about $50 per day, which, it seems, is a little pricey for her followers..and they let her know it. More »

Jillian Michaels Says GoDaddy Super Bowl Commercials Aren’t Sexist; We Think They Are

Jillian Michaels Says GoDaddy Super Bowl Commercials Aren't Sexist; We Think They Are

Not that I liked Jillian Michaels much on The Biggest Loser, but after watching her new commercial for GoDaddy.com, I almost wish she would return to the show. The in-your-face trainer is appearing in yet another ad for GoDaddy–a company known for “single-handedly bringing down the tone of Super Bowl advertising” with its sexy commercials during a family-oriented event. Hiring A Personal Trainer This Year? Consider These 10 Rules First

Hiring A Personal Trainer This Year? Consider These 10 Rules First

If you have stood up and proudly declared 2012 to be THE year to lose 30 pounds, get rid of that stomach (or insert other body part) flab, or finally beat your pompous I’m-so-much-better-than-you co-working in the annual 5K even if it kills you, then chances are you’ve thought about hiring a personal trainer. After all, who better to whip you into ass-kicking shape than some Jillian Michaels-like woman (or dude), right?

While working with a personal trainer can inspire a new-found love/hate relationship with the gym (probably more hate than love, but in a good way), be aware that not all trainers are created equal. Here are a few tips to consider before laying down your cash–and your sweaty body: More »

Jillian Michaels Hates Her A**, But She's Found A Way To Move On

Jillian Michaels is on the cover of this month’s issue of Fitness, showing off her killer arms and abs in a bikini (she may have left Biggest Loser, but it would appear that she has not left the gym). She spoke with the magazine about leaving the show, career plans, and her body, divulging even her worst insecurity: her ass. She’s spoken about her war with cellulite back there before, but her newest interview sheds some light on how she deals with her imperfections. More »

Anna Kournikova To Replace Jillian Michaels For A New Era of Biggest Loser

Anna Kournikova To Replace Jillian Michaels For A New Era of Biggest Loser

Well, well, well… is apparently going to be the new focus of the hit TV series, Biggest Loser, as it heads into season 12 with a new focus, and new celebrity trainer Anna Kournikova. The show unveiled their choice of trainer on last night’s season finale. Executive producer Todd Lubin told Vulture that they weren’t trying to replace Jillian Michaels, who announced last season that she would be leaving the show for motherhood, but he wouldn’t comment on why trainers Cara Castronuovo and Brett Hoebler wouldn’t be back for the next season, as the show had announced earlier this year. According to Lubin, the focus of the show is shifting towards overall health and well-being; away from straightforward inches and pounds. More »

Even Jillian Michaels Can't Banish Cellulite, So Let's Work on More Important Things

Jillian Michaels is on the cover of Shape‘s May issue, and inside she shares her 20-minute workout, as well as some lesser-known facts about her body and exercise. Ladies and gentlemen, this confirms: We should all just give up on getting rid of dimples and do something more productive with our lives. More »

Jillian Watch: The Biggest Loser Trainer on Her New Book, Fertility, and Having an Obese Assistant

Even though she’s leaving The Biggest Loser after this season, we have a feeling Jillian Michaels won’t be going off the radar anytime soon. The trainer known for her brutal (and effective) workout techniques talked to The New York Times magazine about her new book, Unlimited: How to Build an Exceptional Life, among other topics (like screaming at obese contestants, and why she’s planning to adopt instead of having her own baby). Just like when we see her on television, her interview made us squirm (discussing her obese assistant’s diet: awkward) but that’s kind of why we love her. More »

Jack LaLanne Exercise and Nutrition Videos: In Memory of a Fitness Guru

Jack LaLanne Exercise and Nutrition Videos: In Memory of a Fitness Guru

Before Bob and Jillian, before Denise Austin, before Jane Fonda, before Richard Simmons, there was Jack LaLanne, a.k.a. the self-proclaimed Godfather of Fitness. The shiny jumpsuit-clad health and wellness guru died yesterday at home in California from complications of pneumonia at the very respectable age of 96. LaLanne was a proponent of exercise (he preferred the term “Trimnastics”), weight-lifting, and healthy nutrition long before personal trainers actually could become as rich and famous as Hollywood movie stars. He even pioneered fitness-oriented reality TV with his incredibly long-running series, The Jack LaLanne Show (1951 to 1985), which inspired several generations of housewives (he called them “students” and “girls”) to take care of their bodies at home using minimal props, fuss, and muss (and also starred his beloved dog, Happy). But this bodybuilder and chiropractor also designed the very first leg extension machines using pulleys, weights, and cables that you probably use in your gym today. We just wish we’d been around in 1936 to visit his first California health spa, which surely would have been awesome. And if you think you could never live up to Jack’s health and wellness standards (1,013 push-ups in 23 minutes; swimming from Alcatraz in handcuffs and shackles), just know that apparently, he was addicted to junk food as a youngster. So, in honor and memory of LaLanne’s serious substance (and chic style) as a fitness professional, here are a few must-watch highlights from his black-and-white TV show. (His fingertip push-ups and facial exercises are our personal faves.) More »
