Did you happen to catch Monday nights episode of SuperNanny?

I don’t know about you, but my heart ached for this single dad, stuck up in Alaska with four small children. Perhaps I missed the part where they mentioned mom, but as far as I could see, mom wasn’t around. One wouldn’t have to wonder long as to where some of the issues were stemming from?

What Supernanny did for Brian McAfee in this episode was much more then to help find ways of handling the family situations – Jo Frost introduced him to neighbors and friends he might never have met on his own.

The poor guy seemed so painfully shy – I don’t think you’d have caught him talking to the cashier at the grocery store – much less making an effort to meet new friends on his own.

Perhaps this show will help build his self esteem and confidence to a level that will spill over into his life with his children.

At this point right now, given what I’ve seen on this episode, I’m going to say that if mom abandoned those kids and left her ex to deal with them entirely on his own, she doesn’t deserve an ounce of respect and I hope she doesn’t go off someplace else to create a whole new family with someone else – leaving this one behind.

If I’m wrong and the truth reveals itself, I’d be happy to admit my error. However, as a mother myself, I can’t imagine not being in my children’s lives and have very little, if any, respect for any mother that could.

Newly-divorced Dad of four Brian McAfee has shut himself off from his kids and friends while he mourns his broken marriage. For his sake and his kids’ future, Jo must shake him out of his grief and get him out of the house and back in the world again…

I’m really looking forward to this particular episode because it focuses on the single parent and what’s more is it’s focusing on the single DAD! So many of us tend to forget the single dad does exist and never in a million years would we think they have issues! *gasp*

I think it’s great that SuperNanny is showing such a wide variety of families in varied dynamics lately.

Before the show even airs tonight, I’m finding myself wondering – Where is MOM?

We shall see! Who will be watching with me?

The Bruno Family
John and Denise Bruno have their hands full with their four girls. Dad’s got issues with teens Mariah and Taylor, while Mom’s fed up with the two youngest, Bella and Sam. Matters are complicated by Mariah’s cerebral palsy – she gets daily physical therapy from Mom, but Dad steers clear and she craves his affection. Meanwhile, John is currently butting heads with strongwilled Taylor. With tension at an all-time high, Supernanny must play a dual role: peacemaker and family relationship counselor…
I’ll be tuning in, will you?

Darren admits that he likes hitting because it “takes out his anger.”

To be honest, through this particular episode, though he comes off like a big mean ogre, the mother’s boyfriend is one that commands my utmost respect. As a former single mother, I can’t even imagine a man wanting to be around those kids, much less live in the same household with them for TWO years!

I lost a great deal of respect for the mother when she would threaten the phone calls to John – who was obviously in this “family dynamic” by choice and can/could leave at any given point. She didn’t seem the least big concerned about pushing him away.

I have to give it to this family – they’ve got far greater courage then I do – There’s no way I would have even attempted dating someone if my children had acted remotely close to what the Nitti boys did.

In the end, they seemed to have a good handle on things, and for the sake of Mom and John, I truly hope they do. Otherwise the countdown to doomsday is on and it will be going quick.

Did you see the episode? Do you think daddy Swanson is gay and trying to hide it?

It’s very sad seeing a number of families dividing because one parent has been trying to cover up their true sexual preferences and in turn making the entire family miserable.

To be honest, that was the least of my thoughts on Daddy Swanson – being in a blended family myself – with two little guys that adore their stepfather, I could feel the pain of the two oldest children.

I’m a kids and family first kinda gal all the way. I truly believe, and am living proof, that when you put your children and family first – everything else just seems to fall into place.

That means making decisions based on how it might impact your kids or your family. You can’t make the wrong decision when you do it with complete selflessness.

Thoughts?

In last nights episode, Jo Frost, visited the Swanson family.

The family included:

Vania – Mom

Ken – Dad

Alex – 9

Dawson – 8

Myca – 5

Brandon – 4

and Christian – 3

From the instant Super Nanny entered the Swanson home, there was a looming negative energy. You’d think with 5 boys, it would be easy to figure out where the energy was located, but this time it was between mom and dad. This negative energy was obviously causing a ripple affect and causing the boys to respond in kind.

The two oldest boys, Dawson and Alex belonged to Vania from a previous relationship/marriage. I did notice their father was never mentioned and I’m sure it was for a good reason – based on the pent up anger noted in Alex. Also noted was the lack of respect Alex had for Ken – this could be a strong indicator that Alex’s biological dad planted the anger and lack of respect and it’s spilling over onto new dad.

Jo’s first order of business was to tackle the conflict between mom and dad. Mom having filed for divorce 6 months prior and the constant threat hanging over dad’s head wasn’t helping matters. The lack of trust was thick and the anxieties were obviously high. Rather than dealing with the issues at hand, Vania and Ken were going about their day’s avoiding one another at all costs.

Some of the tips that Jo Jo shared with the Swanson family that helped get them back on track were:

Mom and dad listed all the negatives about one another and destroyed them in a symbolic manner as to give way to a new hope for the future.

The lack of trust obviously spilled over onto the kids, so Jo Jo asked them to participate in a simple but effective exercise -

Each child picked one of their most valuable toys and chose another sibling to care for it for three days. Sounds simple – it is! And what’s more, it worked!

Special time was shared between Alex and Ken to help build a relationship where there had been none whatsoever.

In all it was a great episode. I liked the fact that it shined a bright light on the conflicts that are common in blended families and gave ideas on how to resolve them.

In the final family update both mom and dad expressed their increased level of confidence in their parenting skills, the communication between the two of them had grown so much that now they talk about everything and Ken expressed how nice it was to no longer fear coming home from work.

Congrats to the Swanson family!

Another family healed! Way to go, Jo!

Did you happen to catch last nights episode? What were your thoughts?
