Lately a lot of my journal entries have been pretty boring. I can admit that and know it’s ok. Sometimes it just gets like that, but I don’t let it stop me writing. Boring or not, the act of writing in my journal keeps things going. It’s never difficult when something does come up that I want to write about, even if I feel unsure what it is I want to write. Today I sat to write, pretty much expecting the same as usual, but a flood of emotion overcame me. I wrote with tears spilling down my face. Mostly I wrote about my son, who is 17 and causing us lots of pain, but I also wrote at length about motherhood. This is one topic I will often return to. There is so much to understand and process about motherhood. I’m not sure it ever stops. Once you’re a mother, you’re a mother forever. I hope you have a good journal session soon, whatever your topic might be.

Today I read an article encouraging parents & teachers to help kids keep a nature journal. There are some excellent ideas in the article, with drawing and observation the most important. I liked the idea of keeping a photographic record of their observations. Kids are keen to use technology. You may as well go with that and still get them learning about their environment while they’re taking down relevant details. Check out my entry on Keeping a Nature Journal for more ideas, but please share any in the comments section if you like.

Today while out shopping with my youngest we came across Santa sitting on his throne. My tot is still undecided about the guy in the red suit, so I don’t push him to go sit and chat or anything. Instead he held my hand tight and waved from a safe distance. That was until Santa held up a bag of goodies. Once my toddler spied that bag he was off like a shot. After smiles and thank you he had the bootie clutched in his hot little hand.

Digging around inside the bag later while we sat for a break in a cafe my son found chocolate, a balloon, an activities mag, a bit of advertising about the shopping centre & a wish list. This was discarded immediately, as he’s a bit young for lists just yet. I slipped the list inside my journal and didn’t think much else about it. Not until later while driving home. It was printed on a strong piece or card with soft blue ink. There was space for five items on the wish list.

I couldn’t help thinking creating your own list template would be a fun holiday project for the kids, or just for yourself. Use your computer to create a template, decorate then or after printing so each wish list is individual. I’m planning on using the one I scored today, but as a journal writing prompt to use in my own journal.

I had a bit of a search online tonight, but didn’t come up with much to share with you besides websites that had wish lists you could create and store online. I was hoping for some pretty holiday themed ones you could download, or something like that. Please share any good templates you know of online or that you have created and are willing to let us see by using the comments section below. Don’t forget wish lists aren’t just for Christmas, so I’d be happy to see any kind.

Thanksgiving is not an occasion widely celebrated in Australia. But with all the mentions of the tradition I can’t ignore it completely, especially when most of my fellow bloggers have written something about this topic over the weekend and leading up to Thanksgiving. I wrote about Gratitude in a blog entry a while ago. You might like to visit that entry, but the idea of being thankful is something you can embrace, especially in your journal, every day.

Listography Journal: Your Life in Lists
List Your Self: Listmaking as the Way to Self-Discovery
More List Your Self: Listmaking as the Way to Personal Discovery
The Book of Lists (I don’t think is really a journal writing book, but I’m sure it could fire your imagination with list writing ideas.)
