It’s the countdown to the end of 2008 and here is some of what was going on at the beginning of the year:
The trial of Dr. Karen McCarron began on January 7th. On January 16th, McCarron was ruled guilty on all counts. On April 1st, she was sentenced to 36 years in prison for the May 13th suffocation of her then 3-year-old daughter, Katherine “Katie” McCarron.
January also saw the publication of further evidence refuting a link between vaccines and autism, with the publication in the Archives of General Psychiatry on the decline in thimerosal exposure and the continue increase …read more
Karen McCarron Sentenced to 36 Years

Former pathologist Karen McCarron has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for the May 13th suffocation of her then 3-year-old daughter, Katherine “Katie” McCarron, today’s Peoria Journal-Star reports. On January 17th, McCarron was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of obstructing justice and one count of concealment of a homicidal death. A request for a new trial was denied and she will have to serve all of her sentence. She was also ordered to pay a $25,000 fine; she had faced 20 years and 110 years in prison. Karen McCarron’s Sentencing Delayed Until April 1

On January 17th, former pathologist Karen McCarron was ruled guilty on all counts in the suffocation death of her 3-year-old daughter Katherine (”Katie”) in May of 2006. Today’s Peoria Journal-Star reports that McCarron will have to wait three more weeks before her sentencing, as her attorney, Marc Wolfe, has asked for an extension.
Wolfe said Tuesday he needed more time to review a 200-page pre-sentence report that he said was just given to him Monday.
Wolfe said that wouldn’t have given him enough time to review the report and be ready for the sentencing hearing by Wednesday.
