Evanston, the closest suburb north of Chicago, is home to the Wildcats of Northwestern University and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. 
It’s also home to my favorite old-world European French bakeries, Bennison’s Bakery, on Davis Street.  They make some of the best French baguettes and classic butter croissants in the area.
