The new school year has started and some parents are already having to keep track of where those library books their children bring home from school disappear too. Why?

IMG: Sxc.hu

Simple, they don’t want to pay the ridiculous late fees that come with it. Recently my own daughter ended up bringing home a note that told us she’d missed two library days because she hadn’t returned her book. Funny thing was we had no clue. We can’t exactly know what’s going on at school if we aren’t informed.

We were finally sent a note stating this and then a week later a note from the school library telling us she could no longer check out books unless she returned them. Further it stated if we could not find said book we could pay a fine, only there was no mention of how much it cost. We searched everywhere for the book but we couldn’t find it with the name of the author they gave, later we would find the book but wrong author. Apparently they had the wrong author in the system, but we did have the right book. So the case of the missing book has finally been solved.

Today I read that an anonymous person returned two very late library books with a $1000 money order for the late fees. The books were said to have been lost back in 1959 when the person’s family immediately moved and the books were accidentally packed away. However, even though it has been 50 years, they were returned. Talk about a responsible person.

Have you ever had late fees from the library?

Oprah, to me, has always been a light and an inspiration…but now she’s just off the charts, in my opinion.
Last night I watched her special on the opening of The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls.
Gosh, I’ve been following Oprah’s career and her interests since back in the Phil Donahue days of daytime tv.
She probably doesn’t know it but I was sending her books and press releases to her when I worked at Random House, and she worked at WLS TV in Chicago.

Gosh, I’ve been following Oprah’s career and her interests since back in the Phil Donahue days of daytime tv.

She probably doesn’t know it but I was sending her books and press releases to her when I worked at Random House, and she worked at WLS TV in Chicago.

I had planned to watch Oprah’s special presentation of the opening of the school and the selection process of the students.

I have to say, I have never, EVER seen young children look and sound as hopeful and exhilarated about the potential of going to school! And that goes for Oprah too.

These young girls looked so delicate…but they are not…they are and will be leaders. But mostly they seemed so dignified to me.

I believe that Oprah has really entered the period of her life that she was meant to live…and I wish everyone involved with the Academy all of my thoughts and prayers.

I can not WAIT to see how these girls turn out.

If you go to Oprah.com, you can find out how to donate…the process is set up in much the same way that her Katrina program was.

You can give everything from big ticket items or cash to small gestures such as books and supplies.

Honestly, Oprah is an angel.

p.s. Make your children watch the encore presentation…I guarantee, they will have a different attitude about getting up for school.
