Caring for a parent or spouse stricken with Alzheimer’s, a stroke, or some other medical condition presents a challenge for family members. Sometimes this is solved agreeably with everyone contributing their share. In other cases, there is great deal of controversy, often with one family member providing most of the care.

Federal Help for Alzheimer’s Caregivers

Alzheimer’s Daily News pointed to the article in the Wall Street Journal that mentions the new Federal law, the Lifespan Respite Care Act, passed by Congress before adjourning. This act authorizes nearly $300 million in grants to the states to aid families who must hire temporary help to assist caregivers.
Home care for the elderly or disabled is a growing burden on families which could be somewhat relieved by this act.
