Quilters and fabric artists often have what seems like tons of leftover fabric they plan to use for a future project. Or they purchase fabric then don’t find a way to incorporate it into any of their projects.
At Layers Upon Layers, I discovered an ideal way to use your leftover fabric…swatch portraits. Cyndi seems intrigued by this idea, too, which she found at The Purl Bee. There’s even a tutorial at that site for creating wall art from your fabric by using embroidery and quilting hoops of various sizes.

Creating “Still Life With Bottles” Quilt Hangings

Linda Cantrell’s workshop, Still Life With Bottles, at the World Quilt and Textile Show sounded fascinating to my daughter, so she decided to take it. The hanging she started at the show is coming along nicely and is something different from anything I’ve seen.
I mentioned Linda Cantrell’s workshop in a previous post (http://www.blisstree.com/2006/08/21/quilters-private-retreat-attending-a-quilt-show/ ), but I didn’t have any references to examples of her work.
