Design and Organize Your Baby Nursery

Here are some pieces of furniture you can use as basic furniture pieces, and also use to store stuff in:

A chest – obviously! I love this chest below, it’s great because it’s not funky with locks and shiny hinges, it’s simple so if you did use it as a TV stand, it’s not obnoxious. That’s how mine is, but not quite this pretty. You can also use chests as bedroom, or entryway seating and still store items inside.

A good ottoman with storage is the perfect living room solution. You can store CDs or DVD in long ottomans or kids toys in smaller ones. You can also use it for small items that look messy – magazines, remotes, and so on. Plus of course, you get to double use an ottoman to sit on or put your feet up. Here are two choices:

Remote Control Storage

You see, we live in a pretty small house for a family of 5. We also both work out of our home, which we love, but space is definitely an issue for us. My husband has an office set up in the back of the house, but he doesn’t use it much because, well, it’s in the back of the house away from everyone. He goes back there when he needs to make phone calls.

My office is in the living room, which is where both of us usually work from. Yes, even with 3 kids and a dog running around. Our house is NEVER boring. The living room arrangement has been bothering me for awhile but I could never figure out what would work best, until today.

(Here’s a picture of my desk. It comes from Target and works well in a living area.)

My whole family approves of the new arrangement and so far, it seems to be working. If a room just doesn’t feel right to you, play around with it a bit. Move the furniture, think of some unconventional storage ideas and change it until it works and feels just right!

Never be afraid to change things up a bit. Oh, and I was going to take a picture of my new living room, but I have three kids home with the flu, so it’s a tad bit messy right now. I’ll post one later.

HP TouchSmart PC

Take a look and see what is cluttering up the surface. If it’s magazines, tissue box, toys and remotes, find some alternative solutions to storing those items. The magazines could go in a basket under the coffee table. The toys need to be put back where they belong. The tissue box can stay, as long as it’s one of the 3 items and as far as the remotes, store them in a decorative basket on top of the coffee table.

Keeping these items containerized will help make your living room/family room look much less cluttered.

Tip of the Day #27

There are so many things that I love about fall: the food, the cooler weather, every one seems friendlier (why is that?), but probably my favorite thing about it is that I get to decorate with my most favorite colors: mustard yellow, burgandy, green and brown. I love those colors and you’ll found them throughout my home year round, but come fall, they’re everywhere.

Now I know this blog is not about decorating, it’s about organizing. But one thing I have learned is that if you don’t use organizing products that you love to look at and use, then you might as well not buy them at all. Also, there are some products you may think to use only for decorating, but you can use them for organizing items in your home too. You just have to use your imagination a little bit and think outside of the box.

The Bach Coat Hook – Coupon Code Just for Declutter It Readers!

I used to keep these things in our hall closet, but that has since been taken over by our board games and scrapbooking items. So all last week the backpacks and my purse were being put on the floor and it was just really bothering me.

I remembered we had an old armoire that I don’t really like, but it can temporarily serve the purpose I need it to right now.
