Feeling down? How bout a giggle?
Diva Days has started the first Carnival of Diva Days and, of course, I submitted my story about fake eyelashes.
I actually wore something similar to this brides maid’s dress on All Women’s Talk. I thought it was so pretty I wore it to church and weddings for a long time after. My dress did not have the big bows however.
At Whatever Life Magazine there is a story about a girl getting nominated for homecoming queen and having her dress rip, so everyone could see her panties, during the dance. Frankly, it sounds like an urban [...]
Post from: Blisstree

Or rather, when did you start to recognize the person you are today…your “authentic” self?

For me, I began to get glimpses of my real self when I was living in the UK. The legendary non-stop rain that you’ve so often heard about or seen in movies is the real deal — especially from November through April. That’s a lot of bloody rainy, grey days.

It wasn’t easy to come to grips with, but the reality was that no amount of conditioner, or hair-spray or expensive salon cuts were going to do anything to prevent bad hair days. And I was always all about my hair! The day that it all clicked for me — I threw away my umbrella and just said, ‘the heck with it–who cares what my hair looks like.’ And no one did. It was my first lesson in how to be at ease in my own skin. Albeit, continually soaked.

Several years later, I got a dog and began working from home. If my new dog was ever going to get a proper walk, I would have to shed the dreary NYC corporate uniform and all the trappings that go them…make-up, hair, manicures–the works.

After two decades in corporate life, the idea of even leaving the house without make-up was as foreign an idea as wearing Laura Ashley dresses. But, I did it and found a more relaxed, peaceful self. I’m sure the dog had much to do with that part of my transition; but believe me…walking around town in J. Crew and flip flops was something I promised I’d NEVER do, only suburbanites did that.

I’m not saying that clothes and hair dictate who you are, but by becoming more flexible about how I look to the world, I can now see what they see….just me…what a concept.

And here’s the most powerful one for me — the other day I noticed lines on my neck that didn’t seem to be there last month. ‘I just said, so be it’. No, really I did. (as I was applying Elizabeth Arden’s new luxuy cream).

Hey, corporate garments and the persona that was manufactured for that period in my life. But for this new authentic period? Drug store products stay.

Go shopping
Watch Food Network for 12 hours straight
You must get a manicure
You really must get a pedicure
Change your hairstyle or find a new salon
Endure/enjoy a department store make-over
Learn how to cook something you’ve never cooked before; better yet, start a cooking club
Buy a really expensive bottle of wine
Go to a 4 star restaurant or stay in a 5 star hotel for the week-end, just to get away
Send flowers to yourself
Overhaul your make-up case
Overhaul your work wardrobe
Toss any and all sweat pants
Learn a new language
Clean out your closet; if you haven’t worn something in a year, toss it
Find the music you like, not your husband’s
Find a book that’s not on Oprah’s list
Ride your bike
Volunteer in your community
Get a complete medical check-up
Teach your dog to hug you
Visit a spa and get a facial; better yet a massage.
