Did you know that pharmaceutical companies spend more than $200 million a year on trying to cure baldness. In fact I have also heard rumblings that figure is upwards of $300 million. Honestly, I think that amount is way too high. We do not die from baldness. This is about how vain our society has become.

What would you like to see that money being spent on instead. How about pharma companies donating that money to schools where children can be taught self esteem classes – and how to celebrate our differences.

Wouldn’t that be a more positive way to spend that money, instead of making us feel like there is something wrong with us for living without hair.

Did You Know….

The bald look is in! According to hairstylists and male fashionistas everywhere, going completely bald is called “going NBA”.  As this was the look popularized by Michael Jordan and other basketball stars in the 90’s ( I must be out of touch, if I have just heard about this now).

Anyway, shaving your head if you are going bald is THE thing. So, if your locks are starting to thin or your hairline is starting to recede, why wait until its unsightly looking. Why not “jump” on the bandwagon now. You will be very trendy!

Get Your NBA On

Anyway, so adored was Mr Liszt, that his fans would beg for locks of his hair.  The demand was so great, that in order for him  to keep his many fans happy (and I suspect to keep him from going bald), he would substitute the fur cuttings of dogs – and pass it off as his own.  Crafty don’t you think?

Remember that I said this man was vain, and very fond of his long flowing locks.  This is not a man who would deal well with male patterned baldness.

How Far Will You Go to Stop Male Pattern Baldness?

$545 online

Yes, that’s right. more than $500 for the the gadget. While that’s a darn sight cheaper that a wig or surgery, it’s no small chunk of change. I’m pretty sure I could fine a better use for that kind of money.

Seth over at Battle Against Bald has a different video. I’ve seen some conflicting information on whether or not the “cosmetic” device has been approved for men AND women, or just men; but both videos feature women, so I’m thinking it’s safe for both.

I’m just guessing about the retail outlet. I’m not, however, making up the bit about the laser comb. The US Food and Drug Administration recently approved the “HairMax LaserComb,” manufactured by Lexington International LLC. “Laser hair therapy is the talk of the hair restoration industry today,” said David Michaels, Managing Director of the company.

The comb apparently does work. From the application filed with the FDA, “The LaserComb is indicated to promote hair growth in males with androgenetic alopecia who have Norwood Hamilton Classifications of la to V and Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV.” Study participants experienced a 10-20% improvement in hair density. Now, I haven’t heard whether that increase is permanent or permanent so long as you continue to use the laser comb.

Something to look out for I guess.

Hair Replacement Laser Approved by FDA

That’s the figure quoted by Sara Schrock of the Indiana Daily Student. 96% of Caucasian men will experience some degree of genetic, pattern hair loss. That’s a lot of hair loss.

Is it any wonder then that so much energy and money is put into combating male pattern baldness. From drugs to toupees to surgeries. Nearly every one of us white guys is in the target market.

But should we care? 96% is a pretty big majority, big enough to be described as normal.
