Happy Birthday to the Empire State Building

This month the Empire State Building celebrates its 78th birthday. With its 103 floors, and its antenna on top, the 1,454 foot tall skyscraper is one of many iconic buildings in the New York City skyline.
The building is located at Fifth Avenue at 34th, and is a popular spot for tremendous views of the city. It’s been featured in numerous movies, including the classic An Affair to Remember and the more recent Sleepless in Seattle.

Rockefeller Center in New York City

Located in Midtown Manhattan, Rockefeller Center is a fun mix of indoor and outdoor facilities.
It is the home to Radio City Music Hall, and the famous Rockettes, the GE Building, NBC Studios and the Today show, and over 100 shops and 40 restaurants. During the holiday season, the outdoor plaza is beautiful decorated, and is known for its annual tree lighting ceremony. An ice rink operates all winter long, and is popular with tourists and residents. New York City is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s big, it’s full of people and excitement, and it can be overwhelming. Breaking the city down into manageable bites, a neighborhood at a time, can make this otherwise HUGE city seem like what it truly is – a bunch of very cool small neighborhoods.
Most of all, NYC is a walking city. It’s reasonably flat, and by walking through the various neighborhoods you can get a feel for the vitality of the people and the excitement on the street. You can cover a lot of territory on foot.

Well, as most of you are all back from your vacations, nice and rested–we’re all raggedy and need to get out of Dodge, before we commit a crime.
So off we go to enchanting, Long Beach Island–a barrier island off the coast of Jersey. And if you haven’t been…don’t make fun. (Exit 63, if you must know.)
