Bloomberg New York Marathon Defense: It Will Raise $1 Million, Bring People Together; Won’t Divert Resources

In a press conference this afternoon, Mayor Michael Bloomberg released updates on New York City’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy, encouraging everyone to volunteer and contribute cash donations…and defending his choice to proceed with the New York City Marathon this Sunday. Citing the marathon’s fundraising abilities, he explained that New York Road Runners is asking all participants to donate an additional $26.20 on top of their registration fees, which they expect to total about $1 million to be used to help. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg endorses Obama in this year’s election, but not with high acclaim. The official announcement–via an editorial on Bloomberg View–surprised everyone, in part because it mostly just lingers on what a disappointment Obama’s been during his first four years in the White House–leaving many confused as to who really has his vote. Lighten Up People, Banning Big-Ass Sodas Doesn’t Make Us Communists

Wow, so yesterday I wrote about New York City’s mayor wanting to ban large sodas–something that I’m all for. But apparently, not all of you are with me on that. Many of you commented that implementing such a ban would be un-American, unconstitutional and downright wrong. One of you even called me a nazi. To which I have to say: Lighten up!
