What’s this? Saturday Sanity is on time this week? Do tell!
This week at Mental Health Notes, things were pretty busy. In addition to Kristina’s Newsweek interview about John McCain’s talk of autism, I told you about a few mental health campaigns and communities like Howie Mandel’s Adult ADHD Is Real, Canada’s Let’s Face This, and icyou’s mental health videos and vlogs. I also told you about a new study regarding memory side effects of using ecstasy just once, and dove into the brains of sociopaths (well, kind of) with posts about Private Practice and resources to learn more about sociopathy.

This week was a pretty good week for me. After stumbling through weeks and weeks (perhaps months and months) of just ambling around, having no real direction, and letting “problems” continue to fester and multiply, I finally took some control. I made plans. I made appointments. I made decisions. I updated my planner and thus far I’ve stuck to it.
I stopped avoiding.
And I feel great.
Now it’s time for some Saturday Sanity, and I hope by this time next week, I still feel just as great.
At Mental Health Notes, I shared survey findings about saving money on prescription medications, passed along …read more

I’m always passing along some kind of mental health news update, advocacy alert, or call for action here at Mental Health Notes, but, that’s what you get when you read a mental health blog. There’s always a ton of stuff going on in the news, regarding health insurance, and involving advocacy groups.
Today’s call for action comes from Mental Health America.
Back in April, I told you about how U.S. House of Representatives’ Energy and Commerce Committee approved legislation (H.R. 5613) to block proposed federal Medicaid regulations, including limits on rehabilitation services for people with mental health problems.
Yay!
Because every one of us …read more

Here at Mental Health Notes and b5media’s Health & Wellness Channel, it’s become the trend for every week to feel just as busy – if not busier – than the last. I love it, mind you. I just think I need to sit down and seriously re-evaluate my current system of organization.
Anyway, on to what went on this week in the world of mental health!
Here at Mental Health Notes, I was all over the place. From sharing a few thoughts about LiveJournal to reviewing Google’s top five results for “brain games” to offering resources for help with cyberbullies in light …read more

Let’s glance back at some of the topics I covered this week here at Mental Health Notes. I shared pictures during Sunday’s Brain Break, mused on the mental health repercussions for the FLDS religious sect children, explained why being kind to the earth (and not just on Earth Day!) was good for our minds, offered tips on how to nurture your mental health after a cancer diagnosis, honored National Poetry Month by recognizing famous poets with mental illness, and reminded you ALL that This Is Why I ROCK! is still accepting entries.
What are some of the big mental health advocacy …read more

I’m really enjoying the new layout of Saturday Sanity. I think it’s doing a much better job of providing more Saturday Sanity-worthy links, don’t you?
Anyway…
First, let’s take a look back at some of the things that have gone on here at Mental Health Notes this week. We kicked off the stress-busting Goin’ to the Chapel series with Molly McDonald (which wraps up later today), learned how Harry Potter saved J.K. Rowling’s sanity, took a really brief peek into possible new French legislation regarding eating disorders, and pondered the University of Virginia’s new policy on students with mental illness. Oh, and …read more

If you missed Wednesday’s post about Prescription for Change, the Consumers Union petition to the FDA to make it easier for consumers to report side effects of medications, I highly recommend checking it out.
In other drug news, the AstraZeneca Patient Assistance Programs now have a total of three “AZ & Me” prescription assistance programs (particularly interesting for those of you who take Seroquel and Seroquel XR.
Mental Health America has issued another call to action for us. This one regards proposed cuts in Medicaid funding for rehabilitative, case management, and school administrative services – all of which include mental health services …read more
