No matter how fabulous your turkey turns up, you’ll need an equally savory sauce to go with it. The perfect fit? Cranberry sauce.
Cranberries are not just rich in vitamin C, they also help fight bacterial infections, particularly in the bladder.
While searching for recipes, I’ve come across a website that sounds remarkably similar to mine: Fabulous Foods. A fabulous website, with fabulous resources and articles! Back to recipes, though, here are some cranberry sauce recipes you can try. The tangerine-apricot-cranberry combo makes me salivate!

A minimum of four cups of tea a day will contribute to your daily fluid intake, the antioxidants tea contains can be beneficial for heart health, and the small amount of caffeine tea contains can help increase concentration, according to the latest research – all news that should have commuters heading straight for the kettle when they arrive in the office.

Aside from promoting heart health, tea has also been demonstrated to help cope with stress, cut death risks (due to chronic disease), and reduce the risks of developing gall stones and contracting gall bladder cancer.

That tea is a healthy drink is not a surprise. That Londoners need convincing is what makes me confused. Isn’t tea the ultimate panacea for the Brits? “Boyfriend left you for another? Another man? Here, have a cup of tea. It’ll do you good…”

Anyway, should you feel like reading scientific bases for tea’s health benefits, see the UK Tea Council’s Tea4Health, which compiles the latest research on tea and health.

Although it has been suggested that the benefits of eating fish on cardiovascular health and mortality far outweighs the risks due to environmental pollutants, I suppose that is assuming one eats a variety of fish types. If you eat bluefin tuna this week and sardines next week, that’s better than always eating bluefin tuna, a type of fish you are advised to consume only one serving per month.
So how do you know which fish types to avoid, which ones are good for you, and how many servings can you safely eat of a certain type of fish or seafood?

The study showed that resveratrol increases levels of an enzyme in the brain — heme oxygenase — that was already known to shield nerve cells from damage.

Of course, resveratrol capsules are also sold as a nutritional supplement. However, as the Clinical Cases and Images Blog points, out, these dietary supplements are not FDA regulated, so who knows if they are what they claim to be at all? And besides, there has been very few data linking resveratrol and human health. Most studies on this compound have been conducted on animal models.

For more information this polyphenolic compound, refer to Linus Pauling Institute’s well-documented piece on resveratrol.

I’ve had a lot of fun learning and writing about the medicinal powers of food. Isn’t it so fascinating to see how something so “trivial”, something so day-to-day, can prevent us from contracting so many health disorders? Eating is not just about satisfying hunger. Foods also have the power to heal. As Hippocrates said,

“Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food “

That’s the focus of this blog. Functional foods. Nutraceuticals. Medicinal Foods. Healing Foods. I hope that Eating Fabulous can help in making people appreciate food, not only for its nutritional value, or for its ability to satisfy primal needs, but also for its abilities to promote health and even cure illnesses.

And no, I’m not solely looking at those traditionally branded as “healthy food” or “nutritious foods”. Heck, some functional foods are not that nutritious, and some will wreck your weight-loss plans. Take a look at my previous posts on chocolate, spiced wines, and even chocolate chip cookes. But they confer medicinal properties, which is what earned them a place in this blog.

This blog is the baby in Science and Health Channel of b5media. I’ve got lots to learn, lots to share and lots to, er, eat. Help me improve Eating Fabulous. What do you like about EatingFab? What do you like to see more of? Do you believe in the power of nutrition to heal? Leave me a comment below or send me an email!
