I grew up in Memphis, which means my appreciation for ribs is in my bone marrow. I spent many-a-summer sizzling at Memphis in May just to catch a sniff of the contestants’ entries in the annual barbecue rib contest.
Memphis’ Rendezvous serves up a great dry rib. Folks from Alabama will argue that Dreamland is the best. I prefer Rendezvous to Dreamland. I especially like eating at Rendezvous restaurant because they give you get a complimentary bowl of Red Beans and Rice and no matter how much you beg they will not give you the recipe.
My ribs are far from award-winning, …read more

Memorial Day has become a day of cookouts, fun in the sun, and family time. But the real meaning of this holiday is to honor those who have died in fighting for our freedom. Today, Americans are requested to stop whatever you are doing at 3:00 today and take a minute to appreciate what Memorial Day really represents.
Congress created this National Moment of Remembrance, and says that “The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday.” Observances of this holiday will happen all over …read more
Memorial Day Celebration & Patriotic Crafts

Even though Memorial Day is celebrated today, instead of on the actual date of May 30, we’ll still see many parades, patriotic celebrations and family gatherings. Young and old will be watching if they’re not marching. Some towns hold other festivities and recognition of the men and women who have fought to keep our country free.
When I was a youngster, veterans’ service to our country was well recognized and not criticized as we appreciated being free. I lived during the years of World War II and knew about black-outs, bomb scares, rationing, scarcity of food, aluminum drives and everyone working together to support the military.

My family and I had the most fabulous Memorial Day weekend away. I am so grateful that it’s difficult for me to find the words to express it.
I met a woman at my Emmaus Walk retreat a month or two ago. Cindy’s a lovely lady transitioning into her own. Ah, change and transition is sometimes difficult and painful right? Anyway, she needed some help with some writing resources. She’s a gifted writer and now has the time to invest in her writing career now that her children are grown. Of course, I was more than willing to help her for …read more
Happy Memorial Day

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day.
Thank goodness I don’t have any fallen soldiers to remember.
I have lots of veterans though.
My dad recently retired after 30 years in the Air Force and Utah Air National Guard. (Yeah, I’m a total military brat.)
My sister-in-law served 5 years in the Army and is still, knock-on-wood, subject to recall. (End the war quickly, she just had a baby!)
My grandfather served in World War II.
Thanks so all of our soldiers. Hope your weekend has been fabulous.
