Merck Set To Pay $4.85 Billion To Settle On Vioxx Lawsuits

The maker of Vioxx has agreed to pay $4.85bn to settle legal claims that the controversial drug caused many users to suffer strokes and heart failure.
Holy Potatoes is what I have to say. But I guess it could have been far worse when you really stop and think about it. In order to qualify for compensation you must prove that you suffered serious illness at the most 2 weeks after you purchased the drug.

Avandia Linked To An Increased Risk Of Heart Disease

Funny, I just wrote about this on Diabetes Notes, but since everyone and their mother sent me the link, I will share it on A Hearty Life as well. The popular type 2 diabetic drug Avandia has now been linked to an increased risk of heart disease and possibly death.
More than 6 million people worldwide have taken the drug sold by London-based GlaxoSmithKline PLC since it came on the market eight years ago.
