The Little Mod Airstream

Design Within Reach always has cool little gadgets, unique furniture, and accessories galore; all perfect for offbeat homes (and their owners). However, what’s even cooler, is that you can get an entire dwelling at Design Within Reach.
The Design Within Reach Airstream is super cute, and all decked out in nice mod style.

Live Like A Gypsy

If you feel like life on the road is for you, especially a life in an overly ornate wagon, then you’ll want to check out, Gypsy Waggons (yes that’s their spelling), a great site full of pages of photos of these amazing gypsy wagons. Copyright is iffy, so I didn’t want to drag any photos here, but it’s too good not to share.
Go see.

My New Rolling House – the UNICAT

So, I’ve decided that life might be way more fun if I lived in a UNICAT. Of course, paying for all that gas wouldn’t be cool, but I seriously love this RV. Maybe you could jimmy it to run on corn or trash or something like that.
The UNICAT is an RV / off-road vehicle. So with your very own UNICAT you could travel the country and still get to many of those off the beaten path places. Plus it just looks slick.
Here’s one trying to get back on the path; or maybe into that water? Hmmm.

Here’s my favorite. I love …read more

Not an offbeat house at all…

Not an offbeat house at all…

Still, I can’t stop thinking about it. Not since I saw it. I just keep thinking; add a toilet and solar cooker and you could move in.
The Nissan NV200:

Pop!

And inside – see you could live here.

So, this isn’t even a new car – I’m slower than slow about cars. Structures I get; cars, um, not so much. People are actually surprised when I can pump my own gas. (I grew up in Oregon). I really just like this car for the livability aspects. However, this is a cool green choice of an automobile, that much I do know. …read more

Rotating Solar Torch of A House

I’ve seen this home around forever, but don’t think I’ve blogged it here. It’s really cool though; worth a post for sure.
Now, can you guess what it does, without reading further? Of course, if you’ve seen this you’d know, so I’m talking to the folks who’ve missed this sweet house.

Did you guess?
It rotates! Plus it’s green.
DOPE UPDATE: So, I just realized that one, I said, “Hey guess what this house does?” Then I realized that my title, “Rotating Solar Torch of A House” may have given that away (duh). Lordy. Still it’s too funny to edit. I’ll leave it all.

Best. Mansion. Ever.

Seriously, this made my whole weekend complete. I love it. I’m just hoping it’s real and not some glamored up pic – it looks real enough.

Head over to SonnyRadio.com to see more kooky stuff – lots more.
Hugs to Merry over at Cranky Fitness (a fine blog) for sending this my way – such a great find.

Teepee House & Road Trips

If Linette from Mother Earth’s Garden, is trying to get me to waste all my time, she’s a pro. She recently sent me a cool photo of this awesome teepee house.

So of course I get all obsessive (this is a slick home) and proceed to surf through tons and tons of this guy’s flickr pages – he has a lot. Why, well, I’ll get to that in a minute. In any case, I spent far too long surfing through his pictures; which are all so great. Real slices of life – not stodgy photos at all. I like reality and …read more

Did Anyone Else Forget About the Contest?

Just kidding; I don’t forget stuff like this. I may have tucked the contest into the back of my head this week, but I’d never totally forget. Just a heads up to make sure you’re remembering to collect points for the Reader Appreciation Offbeat Homes Contest.
Hmmm, you know I probably could have thought of a much better contest name. Ah well. To make up for my sad, sad, naming abilities why not enjoy a small piece of the great outdoors. From your mobile cow camper home.

Tell me again why this is necessary? I mean other then the fact that it …read more

The Smallest (Real) Home on the Planet

I can’t 100% guarantee the title (you know those kooky home builders) but I’m pretty sure this is the smallest home I’ve ever seen. So small in fact, that one can push it around the city, or the forest, on a hill, in a national park. Of course, this may be the only home you can lose if it happens to roll off. You can’t say that about any old house now can you.

N55 the creative minds behind the snail shell system note that this system, “Can easily be placed in a discreet …read more
