This post doesn’t really have a whole lot to do with being bald.  Actually its the opposite.  Curly haired pigs have been discovered.  These pigs have been found in South America, Britain, Hungary, and Austria.  Perhaps these animals could provide a new source for wigs.  Have a look at some pictures that I found from The Cellar Image of the Day.

Happy Birthday, Hannah Goldsberry! The young woman turned 16 recently, and on Friday she commemorated the occasion with a haircut… her first since the third grade! Hannah, whose hair was well past her waist, now sports a shoulder length cut.
Her 16-inch long ponytail is being donated to Locks of Love in memory of her grandmother. “My grandma died of cancer, and I wanted to give my hair to little kids so they don’t have to go through that.” She didn’t say what she would be doing with all the extra time not spent washing, drying and styling the long hair …read more

Topeka Deputy Fire Chief Dave Sterbenz shaved his head after members of Firefighters Local 83 raised $1,600 for the Arthritis Foundation. This surpassed Sterbenz original challenge of $500. By my calculation that would work out to about $1 per hair on my head.
The local news station has a short Quicktime video clip of the actual shaving.

This morning, let’s check in on Alyssa Stabile from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.
Alyssa, a sixth-grader at Jenison Junior High School, recently enlisted the help of about 30 schoolmates who agreed to donate their hair to Locks of Love…. Alyssa said she was inspired to organize the event because her mom, Lori, is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and lost her hair as a side effect to the chemotherapy.
Those 30 ponytails will make between three and five wigs. Way to go Alyssa!

I’ll admit it: I’m a softy at heart, and I like stories like this one from the Naniamo News Bulletin.

And the winners are … Courtenay Crucil of Dover secondary and Jessa McGregor, of Nanaimo District secondary school.
Both graduating students were recognized with cash entrance awards from the Millennium Foundation this month for leadership and outstanding contributions to community.
Jessa won a $4,000 provincial award for her involvement organizing a charity event for low-income children suffering with hair-loss disease, by collecting hair for wigs.
Jessa lives with alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. An accomplished student, she is also an in-school …read more

Here’s a nice little piece to start the week off. The Union, out of Nevada County, California, is running an editorial by high school senior Lindsay Adams.
Lindsay was diagnosed with alopecia as a seventh-grader. Though her hair has returned as a result of favorable steroid treatments, she has chosen to title her senior project Creating Awareness of Alopecia. “I want individuals in our community, especially children, who may be experiencing the same type of hair loss as I did to know that there is no need to suffer in silence as the disease progresses.” I’m proud of her for remembering …read more

OK, let’s do a Monday Afternoon Warm Fuzzy, too. It is the Easter season, and that’s enough reason for me so celebrate acts of kindness and generosity… especially acts performed by kids. Here’s an article from the OC Register about Sami:
