Formula Storage

Formula storage is one of the most tricky things about feeding a baby so I recommend purchasing a formula travel case and packing extra, empty bottles.
To properly store formula:
Feed your baby prepared formula immediately.
Immediately refrigerate prepared formula up to 24 hours.
Discard any extra formula after one hour because bacteria can grow VERY quickly.
If you are traveling, use the formula dispenser.

Raising children today who are conscious of others can be difficult. I know this first hand because my son can be quite self-centered. I don’t know if it is part of his disability or part of his personality. Or, it simply could be that we have not been focusing on teaching him to look past himself and recognize others. I don’t think it is the later because we have always placed an emphasis on sharing, giving, and helping.
There was an article in the December edition of Reader’s Digest that focused on this topic…raising children who care. In the …read more
Why 80% of babies with Down Syndrome are born to women below age 35

Stumbling upon the post at Womb Within had me reading about Sarah Palin, Down Syndrome and the rumor that the baby is not hers. But this post is not about the Alaskan governor or her family, it’s about Down Syndrome and maternal age.
It is true that a high percentage of children with Down syndrome are born to women younger than 35 years old (80%, says NDSS) fueling the connection that Palin’s 17-year old could likely be the mother to a baby with downs.

One of the best gifts that a parents can give is the gift of acceptance. No matter what, the loving parent is there to receive the child for who she is and not just what she can do, or failed to do. Or how she looked.
And in a world like today, where the pressure to look pretty and thin can suck the life out of a young girl, how her parent (and especially her mom) looks at her makes a big difference in her self-esteem. To have our girls know and believe that it’s fine to be themselves, …read more
