More bad news for octuplet mom’s fertility doctor

Although, like thousands of others, I think that Nadya Suleman has problems that go far beyond having "too many babies," now that the babies are born, they must be cared for. But, I do think that the doctor who allowed this to happen should be held responsible in a big way.
Suspending his license would be too good for Dr. Michael Kamrava, in my opinion. I believe he should be on the hook for paying expenses to care for these children. This feeling was made even stronger when I read this article, Octuplet mom, doctor benefited from alliance.

“Too many” kids result of obsessive syndrome?
January 31, 2009 by Marijke Durning, RN

As the news continues to focus on Nadya Suleman, people are strongly debating the issue. Right or wrong to have so many kids? Is there a right or wrong? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Nadya Suleman is the California mom of 6 young children who just delivered octuplets – after expecting sextuplets. Now she as 14 children. Of the older ones, it’s reported that one has autism. As for the babies, it’s being said that all are doing well, which – to me – is the most important issue.

Mom of octuplets has 6 kids already: Your input wanted

Here’s the story. The other day, a mom of 6 young children, ranging in age from 2 to 7 years old, gave birth to octuplets, although she was expecting septuplets (Surprised octuplet mum plans on breastfeeding all of them).
News reports say that she had 8 embryos implanted and all 8 took so Nadya Suleman is now the mom to 14 children, 8 of whom – if they all survive – could develop serious medical issues because of their premature births.
Now, there is discussion everywhere about this issue – should a 33-year-old woman who already has 6 kids, 6 young kids, …read more
Surprised octuplet mum plans on breastfeeding all of them

Well, if you’re expecting 7 kids and you get 8 – will you really notice a difference? (just kidding!)
A California couple was expecting to have septuplets, but when the Cesarean section was done, doctors found just one more little one hiding in the uterus after delivering baby number 7.
The 6 boys and 2 girls seem to be doing well – 2 are on ventilators. Born 9 weeks early, they weigh between 1 pound 8 ounces (680 grams) and 3 pounds 4 ounces (1.47 kg).
The mother says she plans on breastfeeding all of the babies. While I’m a huge proponent …read more
Twins: definitely NOT identical
January 5, 2009 by Marijke Durning, RN

When I was growing up, I knew a set of twins who looked anything but alike. The product of a marriage between a tall blond Dutch man and a much shorter Mexican woman, one twin was tall and blond like her dad, while the other was short and dark like her mom. We never thought twice about this as it seemed perfectly normal to us. After all, they weren’t identical, so we didn’t expect them to look alike.
Little did I know that this type of extreme difference is really not common. And in the case of one couple in the …read more
Quintuplets – still newsworthy, but no longer rare

Since I’ve begun writing Womb Within, I’ve posted a few times about multiple births larger than 4 babies – it’s really not such a rarity it seems. But, it’s still newsworthy.
A pair of first-time parents have joined the super-multiple club as they welcomed their quintuplets (4 girls, 1 boy) on December 27. That’s one heck of a Christmas present! Born at Staten Island University Hopsital in New York, were said to have been named Allesia Louise, Amanda Frances, Ella Lilliana, Emily Ann and Matthew Sabatino, according to news reports.

Worried about delivering your twins?
November 6, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

Many times, when a woman finds out she’s carrying twins, it’s assumed that she will deliver by Cesarean section (C-section) because of the lower likelihood of both babies being in a “good” position for vaginal delivery. Obstetricians often go straight to C-sections to avoid any possibility of complications.

Sextuplets for a woman in Germany
October 21, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN
After undergoing several unsuccessful fertility treatments, a woman in Germany gave birth to 4 boys and 2 girls. She was 27 weeks pregnant when the babies were delivered.
While the babies were early and are tiny, each weighing around 2 pounds, news reports say that the hospital where they were born has a 90% success rate with such tiny patients. Sadly, this is unlike what it was for the woman in Iraqi who had sextuplets this past August. Two of her babies died because of lack of adequate medical equipment (Egyptian woman has septuplets; Iraqi woman has sextuplets).

Book review and give-away: Organizing yourself for multiples

If you’ve just found out that you’re having twins – or more – you may find yourself getting overwhelmed by the amount of work those babies are going to be bringing along with them. Heck, with only one baby on the way, you may be concerned. So, although this book is about multiples, it could be helpful to just about anyone prepare for baby.
I received the book Chaos 2 Calm, by Tonia Tomlin, to review for Womb Within. Tonia is a professional organizer who took that training and brought it to her parenting for her twin daughters. After putting pen …read more
