Plot Development Month

It only just hit me last night as I was writing in my night journal that next month is National Novel Writing Month, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo. So, if you’re thinking of joining in the fun this November perhaps you should consider October as your plot development month. It doesn’t take long to work up character profiles. Usually the plot develops out of these people’s lives, anyway. I’m sure you already have characters just waiting to tell their stories. Your writer’s journal is a great place to develop your plot.

A Cheer for Those Doing NaNoWriMo

Ok, tonight I’m exhausted. I’ve had one of those days and can hardly think a straight thought. So, I figured I’d just send out a cheer to those who are already three days into the NaNoWriMo challenge. I hope they’re giving their writer’s journals a work out. And if you’re visiting the website make sure you check out the total collective word count. I’ll be keeping my eye on that over the month of November. Those writers are chalking up a lot of words between them.

Another NaNoWriMo Reminder

Just so you know, it’s only a little over two weeks before the NaNoWriMo challenge begins again. That’s long enough to grab a notebook, work out a plot, characterisation, & all the other things you need for your very own 50,000 word novel.
If you don’t know anything about this novel writing challenge, please read more on their website. But, the basic idea is that you use the entire month of November to write a 50,000 word novel. I’ve been part of this challenge three times so far. It’s a lot of fun and very motivating. You sign up on …read more
NaNoWriMo Reminder

I was happy to receive an email newsletter from NaNoWriMo today. They’ve got a few things happening, but they also reminded readers about the upcoming National Novel Writing Month, which is November, in case you didn’t know.
For those with no clue to what I’m on about NaNoWriMo is simply the website which encourages writers worldwide to dedicate the month of November to writing a 50,000 word novel. I’ve participated several times myself, but not in the last couple of years. The arrival of my surprise baby has changed a lot of things for me.
With their reminder let me …read more
Adventure Challenge

I received an interesting email from the NaNoWriMo people yesterday. Chris Baty is encouraging ongoing challenges throughout 2007, including the usual novel writing month in November.
So, you may have written your goals or adventure challenges in your journal. Why not head over to the NaNoWriMo Forum Adventure Log and share your plans for this year. Apparrently they’re going to make you accountable with follow-ups, etc. So, only share your goals if you’re serious.
Personally, I find a little accountability can be just what it takes to make my goals actually happen.

And They’re Off…

Those joining the NaNoWriMo novel writing challenge began writing their 50,000 word novels today. Of course, it’s not too late to join them. Unfortunately, I won’t be one of the 70,000 strong group worldwide, but I hope you give it a go.
Grab that dusty idea you’ve worked on in your writer’s journal and start writing. You can always give up once you’ve hit 50,000 words if it is really no good. But I suspect you might get into the good habit of writing every day and keep on going. Please share in the comments section below if you are …read more
