Happy To Report

I’m very happy to report that I went to an NA meeting last night (my first in 8 yrs.) and Narcotics Anonymous is alive and well in Savannah, Georgia!
Yes, I am serious… for a long time, nine years, I’ve watched as the local court system has directed folks with substance problems into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. This court system even has a magnificent program called Drug Court that works to the benefit of quite a few people that are willing to give it a proper effort. Many AA’s felt the court “dumping” addicts into AA was a disservice to …read more

A Neat Thought From Narcotics Anonymous

Thanks NA…
Freedom From Prejudice
“We do not and cannot recover alone. Some members can remember being unwelcome in other fellowships. Some of us recall sitting alone with a White Booklet waiting for another addict to show up at a meeting so that we could have our own NA group. Another addict, any addict, was exceedingly welcome. As we have become prosperous, laden with choices of where to recover and with whom, we have allowed the defect of prejudice to assert itself and, more sadly, to live in our hearts.
While it is possible for us to walk through the doors of NA …read more

May Her Tortured Soul Rest In Peace

This one is personal… I do not mean to slight anyone who has lost a loved one. This is simply close to my heart and the hearts of a couple of my new friends in recovery, especially Linda H.
Yesterday I told you about a gal in New York who had 19 years clean in Narcotics Anonymous who was “back out there.” Her name was Lorraine. That’s right – was – and still is. Sadly, two members of her home group took on the task of having to identify Lorraine in the coroner’s office yesterday. She died from an overdose in …read more

NA’s Relationship To Alcoholics Anonymous

From the Narcotics Anonymous World Services web site I’d like to reproduce a few paragraphs and then direct you to the link to read through the entire bulletin. The good folks at NA obviously put a great deal of thought into this and it is certainly worth the read.
Some thoughts regarding our relationship to Alcoholics Anonymous

“The question of just how Narcotics Anonymous relates to all other fellowships and organizations is one which may generate controversy within our fellowship. In spite of the fact that we have a stated policy of “cooperation, not affiliation” with outside organizations confusion remains. One …read more

Life Is Real Today

And, unfortunately, so is the reality of the consequences of alcoholism, drug addiction, et al.
It only took about fifteen minutes today to go through two news sources to find that drugs “won” again. A young, valuable life shattered, destroyed. The lives of those surrounding him changed forever. A future lost.
The oldtimers taught me that you can’t scare an alcoholic (drug addict) sober (straight). I don’t doubt that lesson because it has proven itself over and over. That doesn’t mean I can’t keep trying.
A Sober, Clean Day To All,

Narcotics Anonymous

I was skimming along through some other alcoholics’ Blogs and came across some very important information I would like to pass along.
Narcotics Anonymous World Services web site.
“Narcotics Anonymous sprang from the Alcoholics Anonymous Program of the late 1940s, with meetings first emerging in the Los Angeles area of California, USA, in the early Fifties. The NA program started as a small US movement that has grown into one of the world’s oldest and largest organizations of its type.”
“Our message of recovery–”that an addict, any addict can stop using drugs, lose their desire to use, and find a new way to …read more
