People who were hoping for medicinal marijuana to become legal in the state of New Hampshire are waking up to dashed hopes today. The Senate fell short by two votes to be able to pass the bill. This happened despite the House’s clear message to pass (240 to 115) even over the Governor’s objections. (Please note that this is a corrected version – it is NH, not New Jersey, as originally posted. – Marijke)
As usual, the opponents to legalizing medicinal marijuana say that there is the potential for abuse, use would set a “bad example” to children, and that the …read more
Having a Blast on the Fourth of July

My friend Penny e-mailed to say that her family participated in the annual 4ht of July parade in Chatham, NJ. It warmed up to the 70s for the occasion and she said the humidity was low and the weather was beautiful, and judging by the pictures she sent, her holiday was too. It’s hard to imagine a high in the 70s when we were melting under 90-plus temperatures in sauna-like humidity. But I love a Southern summer day, especially in July.

How do you feel about weight-loss competitions? I see them on TV from time to time, and I have to say that it does inspire me to get in shape. There is something about seeing other people who share your desire for weight loss working so hard.
Here’s a weight-loss competition that goes across the whole of Morris County, New Jersey. For three months, members from 14 different towns have competed in a “Toxic Waistlines” contest to see who can lose the most weight. The winning town will “get bragging rights as the healthiest town …read more

I know I do. Our last trip was to Las Vegas back in May, and it seems like centuries ago. Las Vegas is everything they say it is, but mostly over-the-top.
I want the kind of …read more

Initially, I had this really cute post in mind about how I love TV commercials that begin with “moms today are busier than ever before.” Um…Ever?
Or my favorite,”mornings around our house are nuts” I just don’t understand why that is. Sadly, often the mom is shown dancing around the house while cleaning. (still, in the year 2006…sigh!)
While that may be the case: jobs, kids, house, social committments, etc. I can’t help asking, ‘when, throughout history, has a woman’s life not been busy and demanding’?
But friends…it is to freaking hot here in the North East to elaborate on that topic…so, rather, …read more
