Metal Shutter Houses

Shigeru Ban Architects, who you may know from their amazing paper tube structures, have a pretty cool structure in progress right now, actually, they’re supposed to be completed very soon.
Metal Shutter Houses

This condo building on Manhattan’s West side is a lovely and modern building that features motorized perforated metal shutters, thus the building can be completely opened or closed. The exterior is shiny, unique, and stunning, but the interior is striking as well. Take a look.

What the flip…?

…was this builder thinking?
Seriously now; have you ever seen such a mixed up looking house? Ever?
I haven’t. That’s Alaska for you.

Flintstones-like home link

Being that copyright is reserved on this house image, you’ll have to scoot along to the link to see it. However, it will be well-worth the click. Trust me. This home is very cool; like some modern stone/tin age build, but with curious angles. You’ll like it. To view click the following: Weird House in Ransom Canyon.

Oddball crooked house

I hate when people post homes without a proper explanation – I mean, I at least like to hear an architect name; you know. It’s disrespectful. That’s why I rarely post homes that have no named architect, seller, or so fourth. However, today I have to because I found a really cool house posted at Fun is 2 cool.
Of course the blogger didn’t give any info, hence my intro rant, but still this house is so kooky and amazing that I can’t help myself.
Look:

In any case, if you think the exterior is odd, wait until you see the interior – …read more

International Dome House

International Dome House is a great site to visit if you’d like to learn about domes, dome uses, and the different space shapes you can configure when it comes to dome structures.
The best part about this site is that they show the interior specs along with exterior photos, which is cool, because often, when it comes to domes, you think, “Wow, it looks great on the outside, but what does the interior space look like?” There’s also a dome movie page on their website.
The offer up domes like…

The Little Crooked Room

The Little Crooked Room

What exactly do you think the goal of the home builder here was? Not that I don’t love it, but that crooked room seems so narrow near the bottom. Maybe it’s a room meant for thin folks? Still it is cool, and you gotta love the platform, plus the star is a nice exterior shot touch. I’d live here.

Leisure Housing from Klaus Stattmann

Leisure Housing from Klaus Stattmann

Leisure Housing is a tribute to Schindler. The structure is from Klaus Stattmann, and it’s well, actually, this one is much better explained it the translation of the designers words.
“A spatial structure, in its appearance oscillating between landscape and architecture, serves as starting point for the Leisure House in North Kings Road 825. As a kind of involutionary “between-two-space” it is suspended above a centrally located swimming pool and forms paths, passageways, yards, plateaus, recesses, bays and clearings… The oscillating structure triggers a process of becoming, in the course of which the “between-two-space” to be adapted is shaped to the …read more

I’d like to live, under the sea…

If life as a little crab or fish or any ocean creature sounds like fun to you, then you have to check out the offbeat beauties from Senosiain Arquitectos.
The Nautilus House, is one of the more odd abodes I’ve seen lately, and is a literal shell of a house.

The home is a little hard to comprehend at first, but if you look at the layout it makes more sense.

If undersea mammals are more your style then the Mexican Whale home might suit you better.

Do you believe that this is a house? It surely is. It has a stunning interior you …read more

Offbeat Quick Shot: Mayne Island Beauty

Just some quick shots, because I love this little house so much, I’ll never be quiet if I get going. That said, this was built by cobworks.com and cob cottage. Once you see the interior this home just gets better and better. You can check out a multitude of wonderful photos of the home above at cobworks.com, not to mention that you’ll see many other beautiful structures. If you’re really impressed (and have some free time) you might want to check out cobworks.com’s summer workshops.
See this was a quick shot, and I’ve said too much. But do check out the …read more

Robert Harvey Oshatz – The Fennell Residence

In the last post we saw the amazing Wilkinson Residence by Robert Harvey Oshatz. We also looked at some of his design approach. Now we’re going to see such a cool house, you’ll adore it 100% guaranteed.
The Fennell Residence is a floating house in Portland, Oregon, that was designed beautifully to match the floating aspect. Curved glue lam beams, huge glass facade and curved lines are perfectly suited to life on the water. When I first saw this, I had no idea it was even a floating home it was a neat surprise. What I did notice were the tear …read more
