Diabetics between ages 6 and 18 are encouraged to “15-30 second video that demonstrates their Simple Win in an artistic way. The personal video submission can be a visual demonstration of original song lyrics, photography, painting/drawing, acting or another form of creativity.” A simple win is something a diabetic does in spite of having this disease.

During the last week of each month in April through September, the top three videos will be posted on www.NicksSimpleWins.com. People can log on and vote for the best one. “In October, following the end of the contest, the top three favorite videos will be picked by a team of judges and those entrants will get to meet Nick in person.”

Fight Diabetes and Meet Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas and Bayer Diabetes Care have produced dog tags that feature a lyric from “A Little Bit Longer,” the song Nick wrote about his diabetes. Two versions of the dog tags are available: one for people who would like to support the cause and another specifically for people with diabetes. The dog tag for people with diabetes has the lyric on the front, but also has the word “diabetes” on the back to document their personal fight against the disease.

I think this is a wonderful way to support the cure for diabetes. It’s also a good idea for diabetics to wear. Check out this site for the details.

Nick Jonas Designs Diabetic Dog Tags

I know many of you out there are fans of Nick Jonas.  Nick has inspired so many of us with diabetes simply by sharing his story and remaining so positive.

If you haven’t heard about Nick, I have a special treat for you.  He played with his band The Jonas Brothers at the Diabetes Research Institute’s Carnival for a Cure a year ago in March.  During the concert, he gave a short but beautiful speech about how his own diagnosis and how he feels about having diabetes.  It is very moving and heartfelt. 

The one thing he said in this that really struck me was that he encouraged young people who got the disease not to ask why them, but rather why not them.  He said every one of his that has the disease can encourage someone else with it. 

What he says is very true.  When celebrities get this disease, it reminds us all that anyone can get diabetes.  And it is tough to deal with at times.  But we live in a time where we benefit from new research more than any other time before us. 

I admire Nick for stepping forward and talking about his diagnosis.  I think you’ll enjoy this clip:
