Ever felt like that? Can’t say that I haven’t!!! Though, surely it would be cruel to make him wait forever.

Anyway, that’s not just a sentiment, but the title of a book I picked up by Susan Reinhardt at the library the other day. It’s a collection of essays that might make you giggle, might make you cringe, but surely will at least ring true at some point or another.

I haven’t made it too far into the selections, but the very first one did bring up a question that I’ve often wondered. I know TV life isn’t real (truly I do), but it’s always funny to me to see the wives/moms in the sitcoms waking up to perfectly coiffed do’s, unflawed make-up, and a razor sharp wit. (Yes, the sitcoms have not pretended that any moms out there are waking up with a cheery disposition, but they’re still quite alert and literate at first dawn, which I’m hoping is not true of everyone out there! I’d hate to be the only one waking up being able to form, at my best, a sentence that goes something like, “Whaaa? Hmmm??? uhkay.”)

Anyway……the thought was whether or not wives have given up the whole, “I need to look good, put together, or otherwise presentable” standard of appearance once they’ve tied the knot.

Do I need to say I never possessed such a standard? No? Good. Let’s move on…

I remember friends telling me that their moms were always put together, no matter the time or day. I remember others saying that their moms might not look all that flattering during the day, but would quickly slap on some make-up before their dads came home.

Like I said, I never was much of a primper. I do think, though, that having kids made me ever more relaxed (if possible) concerning my appearance. I worked outside the home before they came along, which sort of required dressing and such every day. I think with kids and staying home, I considered getting to chill in my pj’s all day as part of the benefits package. Still do.

But I’m wondering about the rest of you out there. Especially (but not exclusively) those of you who were primpers before. And I’d be even more curious to find out if any of you got more put together after the wedding bells.

So, what’s your story?
