I know we don’t often discuss toys here, but this is important and a major green issue, something we do discuss here often.
Please head over to Tree Hugging Family today, to learn about the new Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) laws on toy making. These new laws will make it nearly impossible for parents and children to have access to green and handmade toys.
If you want green or handmade toy options available for your children you need to get involved.

So awesome! I went to check out the above Alphabet of design classics at Blue Art Studio and found another ABC poster that I love even more than the classic design, the A-Z nero:

How great is this poster? Perfect for the nursery, or any other home space. I just adore it. See these and more posters at Blue Art Studio.

This is some totally random treehouse room I found a long time ago; and really this site is selling cool wall murals for children’s spaces, not truly homes of any sort. Still, it’s worth a look. I keep wondering which lucky kid on the planet owns this room. I’d have loved this as a kid – well maybe not the overly vibrant blur chair set and curtains, but you know what I mean.

This month at Offbeat, I’m introducing you to some of my neighboring blogs via the Lifestyles Channel Three Doors Down event. Last week we looked at Psycho for Love. This week, something a little less psycho, and more fun; Play Library. Play Library covers the best of the best in playtime fun for kids and families. I’m pretty happy to showcase Play Library, because that means I get to do a kid-oriented post here, which is always fun. At the end of this post you can learn a little more about what’s cool and happening at Play Library.

In honor of Play Library, we’ll be looking at some kid friendly play spaces. As you might expect, here at Offbeat, we frown on boring playhouses. Why have this?:

When a world of unique play opportunities awaits? Offbeat has already featured many a unique play space, such as…

The Maritime Youth House

Kidsonroof Mobile Home

And more…

But, maybe you’re looking for a fresh crop of kid’s play structures. In that case jump to the next page to see the best of the best in child size offbeat playhouse fun.

Then two prefab bits of cool for the kindergarten set…

All of the above; much better than most of the plastic looking Toys R Us sets out there. Now, for more kid’s stuff all the time you have to visit Play Library. Susan, who blogs over at PL is the mama of triplets! Believe me, she’s got some knowledge in the what to do with kids for fun department. She posts cool stuff like…

Step 2 Naturally Playful Sandbox – Review

Configurable Balance Beam Toy for Children – sort of an offbeat toy! Very different.

An awesome Little Tikes Slam n Slide Pool, Slide and Climber, that frankly, I wish they had in adult size.

Beach Blast Ball for Outdoor Water Fun

And a very cool Teeter Twirl

Plus oodles more.

Visit Susan at Play Library today, and increase your fun knowledge ten fold – your kids will adore you for it.

By the way, which playhouse would you choose? I love them all, but think I’m partial to the second prefab. Although as a kid, I’d have gone straight to the little woodchuck-like log home.

This little offbeat ditty is a play on light, a lamp shade of sorts; double layer paper pendant light in tyvek from designer Tord Boontje. To give you idea, here it is in full view in green and yellow. But I’d get this in the white (next to green). It also comes in a fairly obscene fuchsia.

One of those classic, easy, offbeat gifts. Not so offbeat from the offset but a great use of 160 minutes.

I Heart Guts

What every offbeat kiddo needs under the tree this year.

Guts too scary for your little?

How about this amazing tree puzzle. Not sure how on earth to get it; being that it’s seemingly only on display at the Toy Museum in Nakano but I WANT it.

Alessi Lieto Angel Statuette

I thought for my last idea I’d offer something non typical of me. I’m not into little figurines. Or angel items. Not because I frown on angels, but more because I never see anything truly unique in angels. This little angel is part of the Alessi Figurines Project and I really like it. It’s such a fresh take on the typical angel figurine and I think it would make the perfect gift for a collector.
