I was very happy to leave the Southwest. The lack of rain and big trees really didn’t suit me. That said, one thing I do miss about the SW is the stunning array of architecture. Yes, there’s stunning and unique architecture on just about every corner of the planet, but SW architecture has a certain quality, such as the ability to stand out from the landscape.

In the Pacific Northwest, many of the structures I love blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, while SW structures I like tend to stand out boldly. I adore both types of work, it’s just different. I suppose it depends on your mood. Today, I’m feeling a little stand out. Hence, the Hummingbird…

This beautiful curvy structure, originally known as the Townsend Residence, is located in the eastern saddle of Mummy Mountain (AZ), and was designed by the amazing Will Bruder. Brunder, of Will Brunder + Partners designed the Hummingbird with an array of colored resins, glass, steel, concrete, aluminum and various wood. It’s a large home (downside) but still chock full of goodness like intertwined circles, curvilinear geometry, natural light, resin window squares, and pivoting glass doors. Not to mention the surrounding mountain views.

Ah – light delight. This bath view above is a great example of how natural lighting and organic colors were used in this home. Fans of Brunder seem to hail the Hummingbird as a best-of sort of work. It is beautiful, but while I like this structure, I’m not sure I’d say it’s the best Brunder design because that’s too tough a call. Seriously this is a stunning architecture co. You have to visit Will Brunder + Partners to see all their great work.

You can also cut to the chase and view stats and many more lovely images of the Hummingbird at AZarchitecture. It’s worth a click.

Earlier today, we looked at some basics about this amazing home for sale in Seattle. We saw beautiful views and the home exterior. In this post, let’s take a look at some dashing interior views.
Staring with the main living space – very nice. Cool in a storm or on a nice bright day.

Same beautiful views from the kitchen space. I really like this kitchen, it’s modern but not sterile.

I’m really hoping this is the master bedroom below. Can you imagine waking up to this each day!?

Great use of long windows in both the top floor walkway and the bathroom.

I’m not sure I like these cabinets lining the wall in this space though. It’s too much of the same. Plus the stair wall is giving me nightmares; if you have kiddos, this will stay clean for maybe three seconds.

A different shot of the kitchen… Tons of natural light.

Overall, I give this house an A+. Yeah the stair area isn’t perfect (for me) but the view and great flow sort of overrides everything else.

I got an email about this delicious house that’s for sale in the Pigeon Point neighborhood of Seattle. Usually our Offbeat real estate is a little more hilarious, but today, this house is no joke. This house is actually a unique home to consider; if you’ve got the means and a lust for Seattle.
I’ve got plenty of images so I’m thinking we break this up (page load times and all that).
In this first post, some basic info…
The house:

4135 21st Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106
3 Bed / 2.5 Bath
2,200 sq.ft.

3 Bed / 2.5 Bath

2,200 sq.ft.

This home is a new minimalist modernist house designed by Replinger Hossner Architects (who by the way, design the most lovely of houses – check out Hill House!) The kitchen is designed with Bosch and Bertazoni for simple entertaining. Custom VG Fir built in cabinetry; dynamic steel, glass and ebonized oak stair system. Best of all may be the floor to ceiling windows – with views of West Seattle Golf Course, Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline.

Do you believe this view?

I’m thinking this is where I’d have my coffee every day – rain be damned. (Actually being a long-time Pacific Northwest resident, I don’t mind the rain). I in fact enjoy it, so coffee in the rain; no big.

Here’s a nice front entry way view…

Well, I’m sold. Too bad for me that my bank would disagree (writers pay – blah). If you’re sold, and your bank just might agree, visit this home’s iFlyer.

In an effort to help out the people of the world who want to live in; not just read about Offbeat Homes I’ve decided to institute a new series of posts highlighting offbeat real estate.

Considering the market these posts may occur on a weekly basis or less often — really it depends on what I find out there. From time to time I see Offbeat Homes up for sale but lately I’ve seem some real winners. Hence the sale kick-off.

This offbeat home listing comes from Swamplot and the home itself is located in Houston. But even if you don’t live in Houston; you’ll probably be willing to move there once you see this home.

From all outside appearances the home appears fine, even dull, not offbeat at all. Check out the yard; nice and green plus those tiny poodle trees would make a great topic of conversation.

Here are some basic home facts:

3200 square feet on a lovely tree-lined street

Close to the Medical Center and Rice University

Oversized lot

Large rooms, including a family room

Pool!

But most importantly there is… the wood paneling.

Let’s look at the most attractive room first; the sunroom. Not that I said the couch is attractive or for that matter the fan… or floor. Still this room is kind of light and airy feeling.

One room with wood paneling would have been ok. But they didn’t stop in the sunroom because honestly if one room of wood paneling is good than more rooms are better right?

Family Room:

Living Room: Ah, note the lovely built-ins.

Hey, at least they didn’t panel the actual fireplace.

This is the best part…

It’s like eating in a forest!

Did they have to use 813 different types of paneling? Seriously.

WTF? Below is one of those don’t ask, don’t tell sort of issues.

If you haven’t quite made up your mind yet, there are some more picture to see that could help to seal the deal.

You’ll be happy to know that all this wood panel bliss can be yours for the low, low price of just $384,777. And believe me you get more than just the wood paneling you also get piece of mind because according to the seller, “This home never flooded.” Well, bonus! I always wanted a home that never flooded.

I know most of you will be fighting over this house but no worries because if you don’t score this one it just wasn’t meant to be. Sooner or later you’ll find that dream home. If you do score this one I’m begging you to send pictures.

As previously mentioned this home came from a Swamplot listing. I’d like to thank Gus Allen, Founder and Chief Promoter of Swamplot who recently sent me an email to tell me about Swamplot. The site covers real estate in Houston and is highly amusing as well. If you want some fun I’d absolutely hit it. I spent a good long while there laughing my head off.

Hey, don’t forget…
